Windows 10: Turn On or Off Windows Defender in Windows 10

I have Defender turned off in Win 10 Home and I do not receive the updates. I didn't change any settings or anything.

 

Thanks. I'll just have to try it and keep an eye on it.. seems my Windows 10 does things differently then most.. has a mind of it's won.

 

You may be able to do it with the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Signature Updates

Set 'ScheduleDay' to 8
(8 = Never)

 

Go to Update & Security
click on Window Defender
click on USE WINDOW DEFENDER
THERE YOU GO THE EASY WAY!!!!

How do I proceed now? Should I use the registry? By the way my Windows is Windows 10 Pro 64bits and is activated.

I'm not sure why you don't have that policy listed in your Group Policy. It's still in mine. Different language the reason maybe??

Anyways, you can use OPTION TWO to set this as well if you like. *Smile

Yeah my Windows 10 is in portuguese brazilian, I don't know if it is because of that but Windows Defender is still called as ''Windows Defender'', so it should be showing there... Anyway, I will try the second option then, thanks.

I have the same issue. I have been trying to follow what is written here, but I am having absolutely no luck. I uninstalled the malware fighter software that was installed, but I am still unable to get WD to start.

What AV program did you have installed that disabled WD?

I installed the free IOBit Malware Fighter as a test, and it didn't disable my Windows Defender.

Did you have any malware or virus that may have disabled Windows Defender?

Please post a screenshot showing any message you may get when you try to open Windows Defender to see if it may reveal what may be wrong.

Your screenshot shows that you have Advanced SystemCare Ultimate installed as you current virus protection that will have Windows Defender turned off while installed.

 

I remember when I first installed Windows 10 that I would get a message saying that WD was not turned on, and it showed IOBit Malware fighter and WD on the list. It was funny cause it showed both were turned off. So if I uninstall Advanced System Care, it should allow me to turn WD on?
