Windows 10: Tv won't connect wirelessly to laptop.

the laptop i purchased recently connects to my tv using an hdmi chord, but i would rather avoid that if i could find another solution.
So i look to do it wirelessly. my tv shows up in my bluetooth menu, but it says its not connected and the only option i have when i click it is to remove the device from the list.
when i search for it in the project menu my tv doesn't show up as a display option at all.
i don't understand why it connects via hdmi, but won't find the actual tv when searching. they are both connected to the same wifi, and are within feet of each other.

i also tried right clicking on the desktop and going into the display menu, it doesn't show up when i try to detect another display. can anyone help? is there something i need to download or update?

also i might add that my tv is a vizio 4k model v655, and my laptop is an hp 17z-ca100.

I am trying to wirelessly connect my laptop to a smart tv to display some photos that I have. The laptop recognises the TV and when I ask it to connect to the TV the TV also appears to recognise that there is a device there but it will not connect
