  1. TWINUI as Default App - Showed Up, Getting Worse

    Problem:
My "default app by extension" settings suddenly changed so a bunch of them have been reset to TWINUI. I have no idea how or why this happened, I just suddenly found I got errors when I tried to open a PNG image. The good news is that if I pick an appropriate photo viewer program, I can view the image just fine. The bad news is I need to fix this and I don't really know what I'm doing.

    Thus far:
--I tried Settings - Apps - Default Apps, and hit the "Reset to Microsoft Recommended Defaults," and instead of fixing the Photo viewer and Music and Video players to be correct, it changed the Map Viewer to now default to TWINIU - so that didn't work.
--I tried manually changing the chosen default app for file type ".PNG" and it reverted to TWIN UI when I reopened settings to confirm the change.
--I ran SFC / VERIFY ONLY and the results say this:
"Windows Resource Protection found integrity violations.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag."
--I pulled the CBS.log file, and tried to attach it to this post but it's too big (7MB). I uploaded it to my Google Drive in a folder called June 2020 Bug; the link is pasted below. (You should be able to download it; please post if you can't.)

    CBS.log 06132020.txt - Google Drive

    Here's where I need help:
--I don't know how to interpret the CBS log file, so I don't know what's wrong. I don't even know how to find the offline repair log file provided by the OFFLOGFILE flag.
--I don't want to blindly run SFC /SCANNOW. There may be other things wrong in addition to the problem I observed, and I don't want to make things any worse.
--My most recent restore points are 6/7/2020 and 5/31/2020, so doing a Restore would be an option if necessary.
--I could try other Windows recovery options.
--Unfortunately, my most recent Macrium back up is too old to be worth much - I know, that's my bad and I'll fix it as soon as I get this cleaned up.

    So - any advice?

    System Details:
I am running Windows 10 Pro, version 1909, build 18363.836 on my ProStar (detailed specs listed under My Computer).
The most recent Windows update that has been applied is "KB4497165: Intel microcode updates." Updates are paused so I don't get upgraded to version 2004 until it gets better reviews

    :)

  2. Microsoft photos app not showing up in Default app list. Jpg Pics opening in TWINUI

    Hello,

I am getting an error "Class not Registered" while opening my JPEG images. I have right clicked and checked my available apps list to open JPEG file I could not find "Photos" app in that list. Instead TWINUI was set as a default app. How to disable TWINUI and
restore Microsoft Photos app to open my photos. I tried to find what TWINUI and thought of uninstalling it .But could not get any file or application named TWINUI in my system. I even tried to open Photos app directly from search bar it showed a dull colored
result where other apps are in regular color.

Any suggestion to reinstall the Photo App will be deeply appreciated.

    Thank you

  3. johnpd Win User
TWINUI in place of some default apps

After upgrading several systems, on a couple of them I ran into an issue where instead on the standard Windows 10 default apps being listed for such things as Maps, Music Player, Photo Viewer, etc., "TWINUI" was listed. Fortunately it was easy to fix. All you have to do is open the standard default app, close it, go back to Settings, and it was miraculously fixed. It seemed to happen when going into a second user after the initial user setup completed and completing the setup for the second user.
