Windows 10: Two Factor Authentication Issue

I'll start by saying this is a temp account I created specifically to ask this question on the forum. I recently switched mobile devices and I had the Microsoft Authenticator app set up with my actual account on the old phone. When i transferred data to the new phone, i didn't think about the fact i'd have to take special steps to transfer over the account to the app on the new phone until after the old phone was long gone (for reference, neither phone are Microsoft devices). This became an issue when i tried to reset the password on my actual email account that was previously tied to Microsoft authenticator, as it wants to sources of authentication to validate you are a real person. In my case, my sources were 2 email accounts i had (1 Microsoft email and one other) and the app itself. I could use my other email as a source of authentication, but both the app on my new phone AND the password reset on my Microsoft email account require 2 step Verification to work ...... and I only have one step..... the process keeps trying to send a random number to the Authenticator app that is theoretically tied to my old device (but has already been deleted). I also tried calling the Microsoft support hotline (he directed me to this forum) and tried the Microsoft account recovery procedure (after which I received an email stating that, since I had signed up for 2 Step Verification, they were basically going to ignore my account recovery request.... .


So, TLDR - My only options now are to try random passwords until I finally remember the right one for my Microsoft email account, or hope for an as of now unforeseeable miracle to appear on this forum - any takers?

How To Create Two Factor Authentication for Remote Desktop

Hello artmanphoto, are you using the built in remote software that comes with windows 10 ?
I too use remote software, so can i suggest you change to one of the following.
Because the remote software that comes with windows is very insecure.

Teamviewer
To use 2 step authenticator with teamviewer go here


Splashtop
To use 2 step authenticator with splashtop go here


Radmin
Does not have 2 step authentication as far as i know.
But it does have IP Filter, very high security.

All 3 have very high security,
Splashtop & teamviewer both have so you can add two factor authentication with google authenticatior.
Personally i prefer radmin

Microsoft Account set to use 2 Factor Authentication & Authentication Phone App but it doesn't prompt for authentication when signing in to my Windows 10 PC locally or remotely (via RDP).

OK I created a 2nd Microsoft account and setup the Authentication App on an old phone I had lying around for 2-factor authentication.

Step 1

I logged into this website with that account and it prompted me with the Authentication App so 2 factor is setup correctly on the NEW Microsoft Account.

Step 2

I logged in on my Windows 10 PC with that NEW account and it also DOES NOT PROMPT for 2-Factor Authentication.

I tried to log in via RDP and, again, it DOES NOT PROMPT for 2-Factor.

My question remains unanswered.
