  1. Two Hibernation Questions

It is entirely possible that one or both of these cannot be answered, and I am posting mainly out of curiosity rather than any serous concern. Yesterday, for the first time with this computer, which was put into service around 01May2020, there was a power outage that lasted long enough for the UPS to put the computer into hibernation and then shut down. When power was restored, I turned the computer on, and the way that it started made it obvious that it had, in fact, been put into hibernation by the command from the APC UPS.

Question #1: While I was connected to our local WiFi, I was not connected to the Internet. I clicked on the task bar icon and on the entry for the 5G router setup. I was quite startled when, instead of just doing the usual automatic connection, there was a pop-up on the monitor about hibernation. I had no idea what caused that, nor what to do, but decided to wait to see what might happen. I don't recall precisely what did transpire, only that I think I had to log on again; at any rate, the icon clearly showed that the 5G Internet connection had been restored and the programs that were running before the shut down and after the first recovery from hibernation were all still running. Any idea why asking for an automatic connection to the Internet caused that hibernation notification and whatever it was that was going on did not take long and all appeared to be okay?

Question #2: There was a notification about the daily Macrium Reflect update, which had attempted to run. I did not understand what the notification was about, so I tried to access the USB external hard drive where the updates are created, only to realize that the computer could not find that drive. As the Safely Remove Hardware icon was not present on the task bar, I figured that turning off the drive's port on the powered USB hub would be safe, given that as far as I could tell, the drive itself was not connected to the computer and thus turning it off and back on would not cause any problems. I did that, the drive was immediately connected and the icon appeared on the task bar. I don't recall this having happened previously, but the last power outage that put the computer into hibernation was long enough ago that I do not know if the USB drive was restored when the computer was brought out of hibernation. Why was the drive not connected?

    :)

    hibernating/password

    Hello Rich,

One possible reason why your system keeps hibernating or goes to sleep is because of the power plan settings of your computer. To assist you with your concern regarding your PC hibernating, we recommend that you reconfigure the power plan settings by following
    the steps below:

    • Type Display on Cortana's search field and press
      Enter.
    • Select Power & sleep.
    • Under the Sleep option, click the drop down menu to set the number of minutes/hours you would like your PC to sleep/hibernate. We suggest that you select
Never if you do not want you system to hibernate.
    • Close all windows for the changes to take effect.

Let us know if you will need further assistance.
