    Two monitors

I connected two monitors to my Lenovo H50-55. One with a Vga cable, the other with an HDMI cable. The size of the monitors is different but resolution is the same. One is an LG analog the other an insignia digital set to fit the screen. Now I have both running (more or less) The insignia works fine (set as #2) and I can move the cursor of to the LG leaving the screen on the right side which is wrong because it reappears on the left monitor (the LG). But this is not the problem. The problem is that when I click on an icon on the LG monitor the response is on the insignia. Any ideas?

    :)

  2. Two monitors

I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. I have two monitors which worked fine in Windows 8.1. When I upgraded to Windows 10 there didn't seem to be the option to extend the workspace across my two monitors, whereas the instructions say there should
be. I reverted back to Windows 8.1 and I am back to my two monitors again.

Thank you, but I followed the steps you gave and it still changed the background on both screens to whatever was chosen. Any other ideas?

Hi Michael, welcome to the Ten Forums.

Right click on Windows desktop, select Display Settings and drag & drop the display / monitor thumbnails to correspond with the actual display placement on your desk. Read Part Six in tutorial for more information and examples: Multiple Displays - Change Settings and Layout in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I have to admit I do not understand what you mean with "the response" here? If you mean that the programs open on wrong display, simply drag the program window to the display where you'd like it to open, then close it. Windows (in most cases) remembers on which display the application was last time closed and reopens it on that same display.

There are a few exceptions for this rule, for instance Microsoft Edge always opewns on display 1 regardless on which display it was last closed.

    Hi there

Sometimes you can set the Primary and secondary displays separately. Try the Windows+P key. If you don't do something like this then both monitors will replicate each other -- i.e you'll just have a duplicate display or a single large "Virtual Monitor" where the display is extended into the second one.

I must admit though I might be talking B/S here as I've never had both VGA and HDMI outputs from a single computer connected to different monitors. I've often had a Laptop connected to a separate HDMI display where the hardware in the laptop manages different monitors with different screen sizes and resolutions OK. My gut feel is that the VGA and HDMI output on a computer (not a laptop) will just replicate the video unless of course there's a separate video card on the machine - in which case it will probably disable the internal VGA output anyway.

I think this is more a question of hardware than software -- check all the output display options though as I could be wrong on this one. I use a trading (Stock exchange) system with 4 monitors but it's all controlled with a graphics card with multiple outputs and software which drives each screen separately.

From your post it rather looks like you are in "Virtual monitor" mode with the display extending into the second monitor when scrolling etc.

    Cheers
    jimbo
