Windows 10: Two picture folders

I don't understand the Command Prompt info you just posted, but I'll try to sort it out. Meanwhile, a new development...when I download a picture now, it goes to the "Download" folder, not to Picture Folder.

 

I've given hints as to what to try. It would be a rather longer job to try to write it out in full - I don't know how familiar you are with command prompt commands, so didn't opt for that.

Otherwise you could use a live boot disk if you can find a way to use one if you have UEFI. (It was easy with traditional BIOS)

Downloads- well, it depends what default your browser is set to. Downloads would be a reasonable default. To redirect downloads in Firefox, I use addons to give me the option to
- choose where to save a download
- execute it without saving it (exe files)
- save it to my default location

 

I've never had any luck with using command prompt...just not familiar enough with it. I guess I'll just have to live with the 2 pic folders. As far as my picture downloads, I'd like them to go to the picture folder, but yesterday after I found out where they were going, I just went to Downloads and cut and pasted to pic folder. I'd really like my desktop the way it was, but I tried the command prompt thing yesterday, and didn't have any luck. Thanks so much for your assistance. Hi, I've given you two ways to delete the picture folders outside Windows- command prompt and a live boot disk. I don't understand why these can no longer be deleted as you said they could be. I can do no more there except to suggest you try Emco MoveonBoot (free) which also deletes things.

I've also told you how (according to how it's described) to recreate the folder.

Beyond that, I can only suggest you seek help from a friend. Good luck!

 

What can't be deleted are the little folders to the left that you click on to open the pic folder. The first image I uploaded were of those two small folders. They never could be deleted.

 

Here it is. Big folder w/pics can be deleted...little folders at left won't let me delete them.

 

The two folders you are seeing (Saved Pictures and Camera Roll) are folders that are created automatically by Windows 10 and as far as I know they cannot be deleted if you also have the Photos app and/or Camera app installed since they will just reappear later.

 

That's what I thought. Any suggestions RE the problem of 2 picture files. I've had suggestions to delete one through Command Prompt, which I was unable to do. I also downloaded MoveonBoot, but don't know how the hell to use it. Should I just live with the 2 pic files? Both contain the same pics, one is the folder "Saved Files" and when you click on the other, it just shows all the pics. This happened in the process of downloading some pics and I chose an option to save "page" and that's when it happened. Thanks for your reply.

 

MoveonBoot (which wouldn't be my preferred option) has a help file in pdf format and chm format.

Personally when I've used it, I just looked at the GUI, browsed to the file or folder was interested in and selected it, told the program what I wanted it to do (point and click) and ran it.

I've only suggested it as deleting these folders from outside Windows either

a. By command prompt
or
b. By using a Live Boot disk
which are quite normal approaches seem not ones of which you can avail yourself.

Sorry, I have no other suggestions bar a clean install or asking a techie friend to help you.

 

When I run MoveonBott, all the information I get either app. data or temp files...nothing that says picture or saved pictures, so I don't know what files I'm supposed to delete...afraid I'll delete the wrong thing.

 

Where are these picture folders showing in File Explorer? Is it in the Quick Access section of the Navigator pane or the This PC section?

If it is the Quick Access section you can just right click and unpin the folder you do not want.

 

It's in the Quick Access section, but when I click on the folder there is no option for unpin. There is an option for pin to quick access.

 

I'm aware you have had a few suggestions already so apologies if this is going over old ground.

My understanding is that you have created a new pictures folder within the original one.

If you select all (Ctrl + A) when in the new pictures folder you can then cut and paste everything back into the original picture folder. If this works you should be back to where you were and you can then delete the extra pIctures folder that you created by mistake.

 

I'm not sure which one the "new" one is. There is just supposed to be 1 folder which says "pictures", right? I have one that says pictures and another one that says saved pictures. I'm not supposed to have one that says "Saved Pictures", correct? I may give your suggestion a try, but I'm actually getting used to the idea of the 2 folders. One is a folder w/pics and the other is a display of all the pics (the folder opened). That would be the one to delete, right?

 

Actually now you have explained that the two folders have different names and we know that both folders are going to be present on a W10 system then I think you are right - you have no need to worry.

All you need to do is decide where you want your actual picture to sit and you can move them around as you wish or create new folders for different subjects or years. Here is a snapshot of my Pictures folder which contains folders for my photos from different years, the current year has folders for each month, there are three other folders generated by W10 and another app one of which is the Saved Pictures like you have.
