Windows 10: Typing with Keyboard not working with Windows/Microsoft related apps

Hi guys,

Been having this problem for a while now that I can't type in my search bar or any other windows applications ie Edge, Store etc. I have been living with this for a few months now but have recently attempted to play Sea of Thieves on PC (unfortunately can only be booted through the Microsoft store, hence the problem continues). Any 3rd party applications such as chrome or any Steam games work absolutely fine.

I have tried many different things including the reinstallion of drivers, updating my windows and the problem persists. Does anyone please have any suggestions to how I could attempt to fix this?

None of the Microsoft apps are working Windows 10 Build 10240

Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

If you have store issues kindly check the Time Zone settings and the system locale and the Time set.

We would suggest you to try the steps mentioned in the link

• Type troubleshooting in the search box
  and hit Enter.
• Click View all from the left pane and select Windows store apps.
• Follow the on-screen instructions and check.

If the steps don't work try these steps:

Try to reset the Windows store and check.

• Press Win + R on the keyboard to open run Window.
• Type wsreset.exe to reset the Windows store cache.

Touch keyboard not working

Hi Paul,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

Please confirm the following things for me.

1. May I know the make and model of your system?
   
2. Was there any major change on your system prior to which you were able to use the touch keyboard without any issues?
   

I would suggest you to check with the services again, there are a few dependency services that will need to be checked. Please follow the steps below.

1. Press the ‘Windows’ key and ‘R’ key together, this will open the ‘Run’ dialogue box.
   
2. Type in ‘services.msc’ and press enter. This will open the ‘Services’ panel, in the list of services, find ‘Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service’.
   
3. Right-click and select ‘Properties’. In the ‘General’ tab, change the ‘Startup type’ to ‘Automatic’ and click on ‘Start’.
   
4. Click on the ‘Dependencies’ tab, expand the ‘Remote Procedure Call (RPC)’ and check the related services. You will find two services related to the ‘Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service’. Click on ‘Ok’, return to the ‘Services’
   window.
   
5. Find the two services namely, ‘DCOM Server Process Launcher’ and ‘RPC Endpoint Mapper’. Start the services if they aren’t running and the ‘Startup type’ to automatic and click on ‘Ok’.
   
6. Please check this link to ‘Open the touch keyboard’ and check if it works
   out for you.

keyboard does not work in search, can't type in windows search box.

If you already used your keyboard on different devices and the same issue happened, then basically, the main issue here is the keyboard itself. There's a possibility that the keyboard is defective or it has a bad driver.

We suggest that you try these steps and see if it helps:

Step 1: File Signature Verification Tool.

• Press Windows key + R to open the run command.l
• Type sigverif.exe and press enter.
• Check if you see a list of unsigned drivers.

Step 2: Scan for hardware changes.

• Press Windows key + R to open the run command.
• Type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
• Expand computer and highlight the extension.
• There will be an icon to scan for hardware changes right below
  help.

Step 3: Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

• Press the Windows + X, and click on Search.
• Type troubleshooting and select Troubleshooting.
• Click on Hardware and Sound and select Hardware and Devices.
  
• Click on Next to run the troubleshooter.

Step 4: Update keyboard driver.

• Click the Start button and enter Windows Update.
• In the left pane, click on Check for Updates.
• On the Select the updates you want to install page, select the drivers you want to install.
  

Once done, check if the same issue persists and try using different keyboard on the same PC you used. If everything works fine using a different keyboard, it means that the first keyboard is defective.
