UAC asks for admin password regardless of user rights

    Windows 10, workgroup schema:

One of my clients is changing line-of-business software and I was told the users need write permissions to the folder where the new client program resides. C:\program files x86 \ folder.

ONE user is having an issue. She has to call over an administrator to start the program and this is not a good thing, so...

I gave the one user on that PC read-write permissions to that folder as the software vendor requested, but UAC still asks for the admin password.

I gave the user group read-write permissions to that folder Same issue.

I tried right clicking on the icon and chose "run as administrator". Same issue.

I checked effective permissions and the user and the group has all permissions to the folder and the target file.

I lowered the UAC notification to the lowest level. Same issue.

I made the user owner of the folder. Same issue.

As a test I gave her full rights to the C:\program files x86 folder I know just to see if inheritance would affect the outcome. Nope, same issue.

I changed the properties of the actual target program to "run as administrator". Same issue.

I ran SFC but no violations were found.

The only way I can allow the user to open the program without the UAC nag is to make her a member of the administrators group, which is contrary to everything I believe in, security wise.

If anyone has any suggestions, please respond to this post. I can't afford to lose this client. I need the money to go see a therapist after this.

    Thanks!

    :)

  2. UAC allows users to install software without admin rights?

    Hi Everyone,

It has come to our attention that our users can in fact install software without an admin account or an admin present. This is done simply by then doing the following:

The user downloads the app / package.

    User runs install.

    User is presented with UAC.

User puts their own username and password in presses enter and the software carrys on.

Surely, UAC should not allow the user to proceed to install software? This is all enabled via Group Policy and everything is defined as it should be.

Not sure why UAC is failing like this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    **Just found**

When a user right clicks on a program and selects "Run as Administrator". Uses their own details it runs happily. Almost as if domain users have admin rights?

  4. UAC asks for admin password regardless of user rights

Any way to enable an admin password for UAC in windows 10?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft community.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if this helps:

    • Open User Account Control Settings by clicking the Start button.
    • Then type uac, and then click Change User Account Control settings.

    • Do one of the following:
    • To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click
OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. You will need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off.
    • To turn on UAC, move the slider to choose when you want to be notified, and then click
OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.
