Windows 10: UAC keeps popping up

I've had this annoying problem since the last windows update, UAC keeps popping up every time I try to change windows settings. I've tried changing the UAC settings but the only one that works is to turn it off completely, which I'd rather not. I am logged in to an admin account and I normally have it set to the "don't notify me when I change windows settings" level. I looked everywhere for someone with the same problem but couldn't seem to find anyone, hence this post.

I try to install a program but it keeps saying "registry is blocked by av/fw/uac,"
whenever i try and I've disabled the antivirus and firewall but it keeps popping up? Please help

Sorry for delayed reply.

I ran both the SFC and the DISM and my PC reported no errors and "completed successfully".

My PC has gone almost 2 weeks without KB problems (and no UAC pop-up).

Of course, sorry. My main concern is about sound settings (the playback devices menu), seeing as I switch between speakers and headphones pretty frequently. However it also pops up when going into any of the "advanced" setting menus; the ones with separate tabs that change system settings like the advanced power settings or the time settings.

Basically any menu that looks somewhat like this seems to trigger it:




So I'm assuming it's only one specific windows service that has this problem, but I'm not sure.
It says it's "Windows host process (Rundll32)" if that's any help

Update: I've installed SoundSwitch to help with the main issue of switching output devices, which I now realize I should've done a while ago, but I'd still like to fix whatever's going on with UAC since I doubt this is the intended behavior.

 

UAC only pops up if whatever you are trying to do requires administrative privileges.

In the olden days any program could do whatever they wanted. After 2006 (and the advent of UAC) to make changes to system secured objects admin rights were required.

You'll still get it if you are using a program created before 2006 when Vista came out.

I don't want to bang on about UAC but is "SoundSwitch" an old program? Rundll32 is just part of Windows.

 

Clarification: SoundSwitch was only installed to fix the problem that the UAC malfunction introduced. It works perfectly and has no problems itself with UAC. Rundll32, the windows program, is the one that keeps asking for UAC permissions whenever I try to change windows settings. I understand how UAC works, and that it shouldn't behave in this manner. It worked fine for the past 10 years I've been using windows, and has never asked for permissions while changing settings before, hence this thread.

 

It is at the default level, exactly the same as your picture. It changed to the top level after deleting the registry key, but I've changed it back since. The only thing that gets rid of the warnings is turning it off completely, which I'd rather not do.

 

Bumping this because the problem is still there, hasn't caused any major issues other than annoyance but it is unwanted behavior so I'd like to get to the bottom of it

 

Try to remove all UAC polices to reset them. Run CMD as admin, copy/paste code and restart.

[/quote] Sadly deleting the key did not work. It did change my UAC settings to always notify me, so it did something, but after I set it back to my preferred behavior I seem to still have the same problem.

Give this a try. Go to the .exe file for SoundSwitch in Programs or Programs (x86), and set the "Run as Administrator" flag. This pic is just an example. The setting is under compatibility

 

What security software do you have?

If you are using Windows Defender, have you enabled Protected Folders?

 

Again, SoundSwitch is not the problem here. It was installed after the problem showed up in order to avoid having to open the sound settings menu and getting the annoying UAC pop-up every time I want to switch between headphones and speakers, and it works perfectly. I appreciate your help, but I doubt messing with the program files for it will do much towards solving the issue.

 

I use avast and occasionally (admittedly not often enough) do a malwarebytes scan. Windows defender is completely disabled AFAIK.
