Ultra Wide monitors (16:9 ratio) doesn't work on Windows 10

Does Windows 10 not support 2560x1080 resolution? I cannot select this anywhere in the settings nor the properties of the monitors. I tried reinstalling drivers without luck. The resolutions automatically selects on my Surface Pro 3 with Windows 8, but will not allow me to select 2560x1080 on either a Surface Pro 4 nor a Surface Pro 6 (both with W10)

    :)

  2. Monitor Choice? Ultra-Wide vs 16:9

Obviously if you are gaming the faster response and higher refresh rate adds cost and limits your choices. Where your decision starts is what outputs your computer has, then size and features. I'd suggest looking at a 27" 16:10 w/2560 x 1440 resolution or higher in equally correct ratios. As many here have noted it pays to get a higher resolution monitor and run it at a lower setting. 2K looks better on a 4K monitor than a 2K for instance. A good 2K monitor should still be the choice over a cheap 4K though.

I suggest 27" 16:10 because in real world use it isn't physically much bigger but in use it feels like it. Especially those extra scanning lines over 16:9. As jboydgolfer mentioned, short and wide monitors are horrible at filling your frame of view and waste screen space during everyday tasks.

    Monitor Choice? Ultra-Wide vs 16:9

I'd like to have your opinion on which monitor you would pick.
My usage is mostly for gaming/web browsing/movie watching

I noticed there are now ultra wide monitors I could buy. I was shooting for a 24" 1440p monitor but here are my questions:

    1. What are the benefits of an ultra-wide monitor?
    2. What are the drawbacks?
    3. What happens to your screen when watching movies that are in 16:9 instead of 21:9?
    4. Do games support ultra wide? (21:9)
    5. Should I wait until 21:9 becomes mainstream?
