Windows 10: Unable to Activate Windows 10

I recently had my computer reinstalled due to some bluescreen issues and the service shop installed Windows 10 on it. I was informed that I would be able to use my Windows 7 activation key to activate it but as a backup, I have Windows 10 purchased on my Microsoft account too.


However, upon returning home, I have been unable to activate Windows using both action keys. I have already logged in and attached my current Microsoft account but upon inserting the activation key copied direct from the Microsoft site, it returns me an error saying "Unable to Activate Windows. It looks like the hardware on this device has changed. Make sure that you're connected to the Internet and try again later. (0xc0ea000a)"


I have no other option available to me asides from accessing the store to purchase another copy but yet when I do that, it only gives me a "Try again" button with the subtext of "Something happened and we couldn't make your copy of Windows genuine."


Both the version of windows currently installed as well as that of my purchase are the same Windows 10 Home edition.


I am currently at my wits end and desperate for help. Being in a very different timezone from the USA also makes contacting support a complete nightmare.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?

If you upgraded to Windows 10 for free and ended up in a non-activated state, try following these steps:
