  1. Unable to boot Windows 10

No need to save files - I'm trying to clean an old PC to donate.

I went to Settings->Update->Reset->blow away all files and (re)install Windows 10. Result: failed with error code "undefined"

So, now I have a PC that won't boot. I used another PC to load Windows 10 onto USB and try that.

I got to Install now->no key->Select Windows 10 Home->accept license->select type of install (upgrade or custom?)

Upgrade said invalid, so I tried custom->where do you want to install? and that is where I am.

The 'where do you want to install screen' provides 4 choices: Partition 0, 1, 2, 3 All 4 choices have the following error message:

Windows can't be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

So, I decided to delete all 4 partitions and it started the steps of:

    Copying files

    Getting files ready

    Installing features

    Installing Updates

    Finishing up

But hit an error: "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code 0x8007025D...no changes were saved."

Then I started over and only deleted partitions 1, 2,3 and it went through all 5 steps above. I am thinking I am getting somewhere...

At the end of finishing up, it said it had to restart.

Then I got an error message: 'ran into a problem. Need to restart. Error code 0xc0000021a'

And it restarted and found its way to the same screen.

Then it restarted and provided a solid black screen. No error message, no progress message, no message. All black.

Power off/power on...same black screen. Nothing.

So, I took out the USB and tried again. Same - all black screen, no message including: DEL for BIOS and PF12 for ...never came up.

So, I put the USB back in to start all over. Same - all black screen, no message including: DEL for BIOS and PF12 for ...never came up.

So, At this point I have a really totally completely did hunk of iron with no pc functionality whatsoever.

This is an old Gateway SX2370 with nothing but keyboard and mouse.

It came with Windows 7, but was upgraded to Windows 10 a long time ago. At this point, it has no Windows, no nothing.

Any suggestions as to next steps. Microsoft suggested I contact the hardware vendor. They duly noted that this is no longer under warranty (probably ended 7 years ago). This doesn't seem to me to be a hardware problem. This PC was working fine until I started the process to 'reset'. Nothing has worked since. It does still power off and on. But that is all. No messages at all.

    :)

  2. Unable to boot the computer.

    Hi Samid,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

Before we proceed, we would require more information to assist you further.

    • What is the make and model of your computer?

I suggest you check if you are able to boot into Windows Recovery Environment using installation media. Follow the steps provided below and check.

      • Insert the installation USB and boot Windows 10 from it.
      • In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the ‘language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.
      • Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select ‘Troubleshoot’.
Check if you are able to boot to this window. If you are unable to boot to this window, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer and check.

  3. Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

    There is three options:
    Windows 10
    Windows 10 Home
    Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

    System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

    Unable to boot Windows 10

    windows 10 slow boot

I was having a slow boot issue on my Windows 7 install a little while back. It would take about 30 - 40 extra seconds to boot up for whatever reason.

I would try following these steps, while this didn't solve my issue, it did increase Read/Write to where it should be.

    http://www.disk-partition.com/kb/tips-ssd-optimization-windows7-1.html

Looks to be similar to this: https://www.back2gaming.com/focus-story/ssd-optimization-for-windows-10-windows-8-and-8-1/

In the end, I had to reinstall my Windows 7 entirely to fix the booting issue. It was taking around 35 seconds to boot, and after the fresh install it takes about 7 seconds to boot.
