Windows 10: Unable to link PC to my Microsoft account

In Windows 10 settings, under Accounts > Your Info ...


I'm trying to use the "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" option. My user account has always been local but I'm building a new PC and want to make sure my license is on my Microsoft account so I can activate Windows with my new motherboard.


(I have Windows 10 digital license. I bought my PC prebuilt in 2012 and it had Windows 7. I later upgraded to Windows 10 for free when it was released)


When I click "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead", I enter my Microsoft account email, then my password, then my current Windows password, but then I get an error:


"Oops, something went wrong


Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."


I've done tons of research trying to find a solution here, and can't get it to work. Please help.

Unable to remove my microsoft account from a linked pc

To help you with your concern in deleting your Microsoft account from a device, we'd like to ask a few questions:

• Have you tried deleting your Microsoft account directly from the old laptop?
• How did you go about removing the account from the old laptop?

Unable to set up Microsoft Account

Cannot link/add my Microsoft Account to Local Account


Hello Ken,

Im using Win10 Build 1607 with all latest update.

I also run all related troubleshooters:

• Windows Update
• Store Apps (says i have to login in my microsoft account but thats the problem, i can't)
• Microsoft Accounts

No Problem found. Also the suggestions from Microsoft didnt helped.
