  1. Unable to load bootx64.efi, might need a Pro here

The story begins with I try to install Win10X 20279 on my Surface Book 3 15in, i7, and I successfully do so, it's running well.

However, Clearly Win10X it's not enough for daily use, so I decide to recovery my Surface book 3 back to WIn10 By using theimage from Microsoft, then the wired thing happens.

Here are two different bootx64.efi files:

    Abootx64.efi

This one is the original one that comes with the recovery image, Also the one we normally find in our system.

    Bbootx64.efi

This one also from Microsoft, it's comes with an older version of Windows 10.

Right now, My Surface can't boot with the normal bootx64.efi, unable boot to System, Recovery flash drive, or any bootable device.

But, If I goto the EFI partition, replace bootx64.efi with B, then everything can boot just like it supposed to be With Secure boot set to "Microsoft Only".

So apparently my Surface can only boot with the old version of bootx64.efi.

I tried the following things to fix that:

    Clean TPM

    Disable secure boot

Downgrade firmware to the stock version

    None of them works.

Anyone may give me some advice? greatly appreciate!

    :)

Why would windows 10 EFI installer not recognising keys?

I bought a gigabyte board to find it boots to EFI console.

    No matter the helpful MS
    TechNet
provided instruction enough on how to install my OEM copy of Windows 10 64.

One glaring problem I can type the following into the console as directed by MS TechNet BUT/HOWEVER/WOULD YOU BELIEVE when the BOOTX64.EFI "runs" it prompts with "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" and then IGNORES the keyboard
    - result my machine never boots but just falls back into the console.

So, behaviour is the raw motherboard boots to EFI, recognises the usb keyboard enough to allow me to enter the commands above but ignores keyboard when "\EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI" is run.

Is this a problem with the \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI? Why would it not accept keys from the same keyboard that was used to run it and from the same shell that run it?

As you can imagine it is a little frustrating because the OEM version is not free.

    Any useful suggestions appreciated.

    Cheers,

    B

Which tool to recover the EFI partition? Booted into Rescue Disk

That's not what they suggest here:

FIX: Steps to Fix Winload.EFI Error - Appuals.com

Winload.EFI Error, is pretty much self explanatory by it’s name is an error that prevents windows from loading. This is usually caused by corrupt boot records or incorrect boot configuration. Depending on your Operating System, the error message may vary but the keyword winload.efi will be same. On a Windows 8/8.1/10 system, the error usually pops-up in the following form.

Unable to load bootx64.efi, might need a Pro here

    Move EFI partition

its to enable win 10 to update to its anniversary edition.. it cant do this due to lack of C drive space i have had a quick try with the trial version of easus.. it didnt seem to be able to do what i want..

i am assuming i cant just delete the efi partition but maybe i could.. as yet i havnt even figured out how to get into the bios of the thing.. maybe that should be my next step.. *Smile Unable to load bootx64.efi, might need a Pro here :)

diskpart could probably do it but figuring out how (it aint that user friendly) might be difficult without step by step instructions..
