Windows 10: Unable to log in to Windows 10 computer - I forgot my password

I tried to boot into safe mode to fix a problem with third party software. Ask for a password that I haven't used in years / I'm used to using a PIN. How can I log in to my computer? I have tried rebooting several times, but can't get back to where I can use my PIN.

Forgot Windows 10 password...

So I fired up my laptop in order to use it to flash a router without mucking around with the rest of my networking... and I forgot the password to log in. Is there anything I can do short of reinstalling windows, or downloading a Linux LiveCD? (If I do have to download something, I'd prefer the file size to be as small as possible, because of evil data caps)

Forgot Windows 10 password...

If it's a Microsoft account, you should be able to change the password via another computer at live.com and the password should also change to match on the computer (obviously make sure it has internet access first). The password is verified online during login.
