Windows 10: Unable to login to my PC after a windows 10 update

Hello,


After the recent windows update, I’m unable to go past the welcome page in windows 10.


After booting up and reaching the login page, I enter the password/pin. Further, it never goes past this. It indefinitely stays at this state.




I’m able to login using safe mode. But unable to login usingsafe mode with networking. I’ve tried startup repair. But it couldn’t repair my PC. The only option that i see here is to roll back the update, which I had already done earlier few weeks back. Can someone please help me on this?

Unable to login to the PC after updating to Windows 10 1903 update

I understand that you are facing issues while logging in to the PC after installing the latest Windows update. I appreciate your time and effort in trying to resolve the issue by performing certain steps to login.



To understand the issue better, please respond to the questions below:

1. Is the PC connected to university network/domain network?
   
2. Is the computer connected to the internet while you are trying to login to your computer?
   

If you are not connected to internet, please connect an Ethernet cable to the PC and then try logging.



However, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check if that helps.



Method 1:



Try booting the PC in to safe mode and check if you are able to login. Refer the article

If the issue persists, please try the next method.



Method 2:



Since you are unable to login, I would suggest you to try rolling back the update and check. Refer the section

In addition, you can also try resetting the password for the university account and check if you are able to login. In order to reset the password please get in touch with the university.

Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Which Windows Update are you referring to?

Is it Cumulative Update?

Suggest you to try with the below mentioned troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Suggest you try booting your system in Safe Mode and see if it works.

• 
  Restart your PC. When you reach the
  sign-in screen, hold the Shift key and select the
  Power button, and then select Restart.
  
• 
  After your PC restarts, select
  Troubleshoot > Advanced options >Startup settings > Restart. After your PC restarts, you should see a number of options. Press 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with networking.
  
• 
  When you're on to the
  Safe Mode, try to uninstall the Windows Update which you're referring to and see if it works.
  

To uninstall an unwanted Windows Update:

• Type “View Installed Updates” in the Search box and then click on View Installed Updates – Control Panel from the Search results.
• To uninstall the unwanted update, select it from the list and then click
  Uninstall. Restart and boot into normal mode to see if it works.

Method 2:

If you still unable to login, then try with the below steps.

• Restart your PC. When you reach the sign-in screen, hold the
  Shift key and select the Power button, and then select
  Restart.
• 
  After your PC restarts, select
  Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  
• 
  Select the restore point created prior to this problem and follow the on-screen instructions to restore your PC to earlier point of time.
  
• 
  Now try to boot your PC into normal mode and see if it works.
