    Windows 7 failed many times to install an update and has left 44 directories of temporary files. I have updated to Windows 10 but am unable to remove the files, as they say that requires System access.

    Hi Sumit,

    Looks like you are running out of storage space, let's walk you through the steps of running
    Disc cleanup for your Windows 10 device.

    To delete temporary files, kindly follow these steps:

    • Press the Windows key to launch the Start menu.
    • Type in Disc cleanup and press Enter.
    • Under Files to delete, select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.
    • Select OK.

    If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:

    • Press the Windows key to launch the Start menu.
    • Type in Disc cleanup and press Enter.
    • In Disk cleanup, select Clean up system files.
    • Select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.
    • Select OK.

  3. How To Delete Temporary Internet Files And Temporary Files In Windows 10

    Hi,

    As you are saying that you are not able to delete the temporary internet files and temporary Files in Windows 10.

    Provide us with the below details for better clarity on the issue.

    1.Have you installed any third party applications to clean up temporary Files?

    2.In the Disk Cleanup had you checked the Temporary Internet files and Temporary files before doing disk cleanup?

    I suggest you to follow the below steps and try deleting the temporary internet files.

    • Open Internet Explorer by typing Internet Explorer in Search Bar. Click the
      Tools
      button, and then click Internet Options.
    • Click the General tab, and then, under Browsing history, click
      Delete.
    • In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, select the check boxes for the information you want to delete, click
      Delete, and then click OK.
    I also suggest you refer the Microsoft article on View and delete browser history in Microsoft Edge
    and check if it helps.

    I understand the inconvenience that you are unable to upgrade to Windows 10 with an error 80070003 while searching for updates, we will help you to resolve this issue.



    If you receive Windows Update Error 80070003 when searching for updates, you must remove the temporary update files that Windows uses to identify updates on the computer. Stop the Windows Update service to remove the temporary files, delete the temporary
    update files, restart the Windows Update service, and perform the search again after Windows updates.



    Please perform some of the below troubleshooting steps and check:

    Method 1: To run Windows Update troubleshooter and check.

    Follow these steps to run Windows Update troubleshooter.


    • Type troubleshooting in the
      Search
      box on the desktop.

    • Select Troubleshooting.

    • Select View All on the top left corner.

    • Run Windows update troubleshooter.


    Method 2: Remove temporary files.

    I suggest you to remove the temporary files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer.

    Step 1: Stop Windows Update service

    Follow these steps to stop Windows Update service.


    • Press Windows + R keys and type “services.msc”.

    • Search for Windows Update Service, right click on it and select
      Stop.

    Step 2: Delete Temporary Update files

    Follow these steps to delete temporary files.


    • Press Windows + E and double-click the
      local hard disk where Windows is installed.

    • Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the
      SoftwareDistribution folder.

    • Double-click the DataStore folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder.

    • Click the Back button. In the
      SoftwareDistribution
      folder, double-click the Download folder to open it, delete all files in the folder, and then close the window.


    Step 3: Start Windows Update service

    Follow these steps to start Windows Update service.


    • Press Windows + R keys and type “services.msc”.

    • Search for Windows Update Service, right click on it and select
      Start.
