  1. Unable to Reset Windows

This is the first time I've ever needed to ask a question in one of these forums; I can't seem to find anything specific enough to my issue.

Recently, the installation of Windows on my laptop has been acting up, causing apps to misbehave, application shortcuts and executables to break, and other things. I have run a virus scan and there are no issues. So, I backed up my files and went to reset the Windows installation, and after it "prepared to reset" and rebooted, it made it to 1% of progress and threw the error "There was a problem resetting your PC."

After this, I followed some articles that suggested performing a system file check using the "sfc" command off the boot drive; this ran just fine but did not fix the issue. I also tried a DISM re-image, which failed. Some sites suggest renaming the system and software files in %windir%\system32\config, which I reluctantly tried.

Additionally, I ran automatic repair from the recovery environment, and it threw the error that Startup Repair could not fix the PC. I checked the SrtTrail log, which is completely fine. All of the material on fixing this issue seems to focus around PCs stuck in an Automatic Repair loop or ones that will not boot to the OS at all, which mine is doing just fine. I did try some of the bootrec commands, one of which claimed that there are 0 Windows installations on my PC, leading me to believe something is seriously wrong.

This leads me to my point. There are no restore point images in the recovery partition, and I overwrote the recovery USB I made when I first got the laptop. Since a clean install of Windows seems to be the only option here, will making a recovery drive from my laptop in its current, broken state carry over to the new installation from said drive? And if I acquire a recovery drive from a clean PC, will I lose the Win10 Workstation license, or will the extra functionality of it reinstall even if the drive is made from a Win10 Home Edition PC.

Sorry for the length, I tried to outline everything I've done so far. Nothing I've found really deals with both the reset and startup repair issues. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    :)

    • If you've forgotten your Windows password, there are several ways to retrieve or reset it:
      • If your PC is on a domain, your system administrator must reset your password.
      • If you're using a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online. ...
      • If you're using a local account, use your password hint as a reminder.

    Unable to Reset Windows

How to reset whole netsh? (Windows 7)

Was wondering has the commands changed somehow since on Windows XP and on Windows Vista 'NETSH INT RESET ALL' cleaned entire netsh up from top to bottom.

Now on Windows 7 this same command says no go and only way I can see it is by building .cmd/.bat which does something like:

Code: netsh winsock reset all netsh int 6to4 reset all netsh int ipv4 reset all netsh int ipv6 reset all netsh int httpstunnel reset all netsh int isatap reset all netsh int portproxy reset all netsh int tcp reset all netsh int teredo reset all[/quote] now the king of the hill of bugs is this doesn't actually do even it's job even after reboot. values setup to are not reset to defaults. (I know I could add more entire list of entries there is, but looking for clean delete/wipe settings & default everything not to dump entire list of resets.)

So, anyone got a plan B?
