Windows 10: Unable to save anything to Document folder and sub folder

    Unable to save anything to Document folder and sub folder


    I just reinstalled Windows 10 Pro using the method outlined here. Basically I used an ISO which I made via a download from MS. Now I am unable to save any kind of file to my Document folder or sub-folder. I get access denied. Looks like MS lied again. This method was to save all my apps and settings. I don't want to try a bunch of things that I am not sure of and mess this fresh Windows 10 install.

    Unable to Save to Documents Folder

    I can't move, copy or save anything to my Documents folder. I checked the properties of the folder, under security, it listed only Home Users and WMP Network Svc. My account name is listed in the security tabs of Pictures, Music, etc., and I am able to
    save, copy and move to those folders. My account is listed in C:/Windows/Users/myname/Documents under the security tab. How do I add my name to the Documents folder in File Explorer?

  3. Downloads folder is the Documents folder

    Hi Chris,

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

    Step 1:

    Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

    • Go to Download folder.
    • Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
    • In Properties go to Location tab.
    • In location Tab Click on Restore Default.


    Step 2:

    Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

    • Go to Documents folder.
    • Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
    • In Properties go to Location tab.
    • In location Tab Click on Restore Default.
    After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.

    Unable to Save to Documents Folder

    I was able to removed Everyone from the Users Doc folder, so it now lists only SYSTEM, My MA and Administrators. Still can't save to the Documents folder in File Explorer.
