Windows 10: Unable to set a lock screen background image (Win10).

I've got the same issue. I haven't got the mentioned registry key and setting the lockscreen image through the photos app does not work neither even though it says that the lockscreen image had been correctly set. Appears to be a bug of this Windows 10 build.

 

A new update came out today, 8/5/15 (technically yesterday now, lol). I installed it, restarted my PC, and now the lock screen is one of the default pictures. In this case the view out of a cave on a beach. Sad part is that everything else is still not working. So I just get to see this picture now instead of a solid color until we solve this.

I had this same issue, THIS option worked for me. The default setting was set to "Not Defined". I did check in my registry just to see if the key mentioned in another post was there, it was not.

I am still having an issue though, previously when locked my slideshow would display on multiple monitors that are hooked up to my docking station. Now they just display on my main monitor. When docked I do NOT use the laptop screen, just the 3 monitors attached to the docking station. While this is not a major issues by any means, any help with it would be grateful.

I have this problem too and seems like the only fix at this moment is creating a new user account and move the data from the affected user account folder into the user account that you just created because new user accounts don't have this problem.

 

Since creating a new user account was mentioned...I decided to try to play with that a bit. I created a new (local) user to see if I could find file differences and such. Under the new user the lock personalization windows functioned again. I first went back to the file locations that the walkthrough for manually setting a default lock screen mentions. I found that the default images were back in place and everything looked clean. Instead of looking around more I switched back to my normal user to see if anything changed (since those files/folders are not user specific). Nothing changed.......

However, I managed to set my lock screen image shortly after that. I feel like an idiot now for not seeing this sooner. In Windows 8 I always had the file type shown in the file names. I failed to notice this got turned off after the upgrade so it turns out I was naming a .png file "img100.jpg" which does no good. Once I corrected this it took the image.

The sad part is the lock screen personalization windows and setting one via the photo app still does not work. I am guessing this is a result of my original rename of the SystemData folder. I am happy though, finally having my lock screen the image I wanted *Smile

Thanks all! I will leave this thread unsolved until we can figure out the other issues and be able to set this normally instead of manually.

 

Oh, one more thing in case it was part of the cause. I found the properties of the picture I was trying to use said it was blocked due to being from another computer....I checked the box to unblock it. This is odd since I used this before the upgrade too and no other pictures I have said such a thing.

 

In case anyone is still looking for a solution, I seem to have found one for 8.1 that seems to have worked on W10 for me over here.

Did you have any keys in that location before adding what it mentions? I took a look at mine and I already have all those keys...but they are set for different values. I am hesitant on changing them to what is mentioned.

 

I only had a couple DWORD ones but none of the ones i had to add. You can always try to backup the entire folder by right clicking the folder and hitting the export function. That way you can use that reg file if anything happens.

I created a temporary second user account, checked that the lock screen personalization was working
then exported this entire key to the root of my drive.

After that my images returned & I was able to change the lock screen and see the spotlight picture.

I created new user and the lock screen personalizations was working, but I exported the .REG and imported it and it didn't work.

Run/regedit/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization
right click NoLockScreen/Modify and set value data from 1 to 0/OK. Re-open Settings/Personalization. Done !
regedit screen and Lock Screen personalization screen before (grayed out) and after I reset value to 0 (I could choose and browse)

 

I tried all of things and I think it's so strange because I can't choose pictures because it does not apear in the screen.





If I try to put manual a picture the system stop and I can't see any picture in my screen.
