Windows 10: Unable to sign in to Windows 10 with my Microsoft account

I have a brand new PC running Windows 10 Home for my personal use. I set it up through a Local Account but now wanted to add an option to sign in with my Microsoft Account. I'm able to log into my Microsoft Account through a web browser Firefox, Edge, Chrome but my attempts to add a Microsoft Account sign in option to my PC have been failing:


1. Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in options gives me a blank screen see below. I see the same blank screens for all the other options in the left column below:




2. Settings -> Login upper left corner. The screenshot below shows the screen after I type in my login name and password. I'm 100% confident that I'm typing in the correct credentials.





3. Microsoft Edge -> Sign In upper right-hand corner. Microsoft Edge works fine but when I click on the User icon -> Sign In, I get the following pop-up before I even have a chance to type in my credentials.





I'm getting frustrated because I do not see a path forward from here. Googling "Error code: 5, 2, 0" gives some cryptic, but serious sounding, scenarios that MSFT techs would have to address.


Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

• Launch the Store from your Start menu.
• Click the user icon next to the search box.
• Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
• Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
• When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”
