Windows 10: Unable to turn off Fast Start on Samsung computer

In case it helps try to turn it off from the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power
and in the right pane change the value of HiberbootEnabled
0 = Turn off fast startup
1 = Turn on fast startup
or create a new DWORD with your choice if it's not there

 

Well, to those who might be interested: I spent the better part of two hours with Microsoft help desk. After poking around the computer remotely, they recommended reverting back to Windows 7, updating it, then upgrading again to Windows 10.

This is exactly what I did the first time, so I don't know how happy I am with the answer.

Anyway, thank you previous poster, but I think I'm going to leave the Fast Start dialog box as-is at the moment (it really isn't hurting anything, I guess). I'll wait a month, then just do a clean install of Windows 10. Maybe that will do the trick!

 

A clean install should give you the best results when you're ready to do so.

Sometimes upgrades will just not work well for some for whatever reason.

 

Fast start error message is caused by Samsung Programm "C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Easy Display Manager\SmartSetting.exe"

Just search for it and try to start it manually. You will get same error message on screen.

Until now I did not find out how to disable this SmartSetting.exe from starting.

It was installed by installing "Easy Display Manager". I use version Easy_Display_Manager_3.2.6.9 ... you can google and download it. It works in Windows 10 and you can use the FN keys.

My laptop is Samsung P560

 

should be able to disable Fast Start from the Startup tab of the Task Manager, but if not, then download Autoruns and disable it there.

 

Here is the real proper fix using the registry. The issue is the Power Security Descriptors that have been set by Thirda Party Software.Fix:Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\SecurityDescriptorsThe only entries that should be in here are:0E796BDB-100D-47D6-A2D5-F7D2DAA51F51 Default If any other descriptors exist then delete them, their entries names will match the default security schemes.You should now have instant access to the power option settings
