Windows 10: Unable to update to 1803/1903 from 1703 - Win 10 Pro

I have been attempting to update from 1703 through both automatic update and Update Assistant without luck.


Windows Update attempts to install 'Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803 x64 2019-09B' - the update completes but the system is rendered unbootable. After the update completes, the computer restarts and goes to BIOS saying there are no bootable drives. Hard reset allows Windows to roll back to the previous version.


I tried to use Windows 10 Update Assistant as well. When launched it warns me that 1703 is out of date and recommends 1903 (which is what I want). I run the update and restart the computer. It gets about 30% finished, reboots again, and then displays a message that it's undoing the changes and finally boots back to 1703.


sfc /scannow and chckdsk /f /r /x both show no errors, and I'm not experiencing any issues using the computer outside of being unable to update. The Windows Update attempts show as failed in the Update History, but the Update Assistant attempt doesn't show in the history at all. If there is a log in Event Viewer with more detail of what's failing, I'm not sure how to find it.

Win 10 1803 to 1903 update

My Desktop computer running Win 10 updated from version 1803 to 1903 a while back, but my Desktop running Win 10 version 1803

I'm assuming the update 1803 to 1903 has now resumed after the earlier problems caused a suspension?

Any thoughts, suggestions?

 

Unable to upgrade from Win 10 Pro 1803 to 1903

Hi guys,

Feel like I've tried everything here.

Tried Windows Update. Doesn't work. [Fails to update during the reboot bit, and simply undoes changes]
Tried Windows Update/Upgrade Assistant. [Gets to about 30% during the reboot bit, and simply gives black screen telling me it's undoing the changes]
Tried Windows In-Place-Upgrade (using the Media Creation Tool). [Same as the Update/Upgrade Assistant above]

Not really sure what else to do?

I'm guessing you guys will want some logs from somewhere?

EDIT: It's just finished reloading from the in-place-upgrade, and I've been presented with the following screen:

 

Following Win 10 Update (1803): Unable to print (Printer offline message).

Printer Samsung ML2950 Series.

I have followed all the suggestions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027397/windows-10-fix-printer-problems

None of them fix the problem.

The printer is working fine. Another WIN 10 computer on the network is able to print to the printer without issue.

Latest updates:

• WIN 10 1803

and

• Security Update for Adobe Flash for Win 10 1803 KB4338832

I uninstalled KB4338832 and the problem persists, so I presume that the problem is with the 1803 update (as that took around 2 hours to install, I'm reluctant to uninstall it to test it).
