  1. Unable to update to Build 10586

I tried updating normally using Windows Update. It fails in less than 10 seconds.
I tried using Media Creation Tool. It downloads the update, but at the end it fails again and tell me restart my PC and try again.
I tried deleting the files at C:/Windows/SoftawareDistribution/Download and then going back to Windows Update. It didin't work.
I'm desperate to update because this Build is crashing and freezing in almost any game that I play or application that I use. I'm only able to use Chrome and Office properly. Everything else usually freezes and crash.
Any ideas of whatelse I could try ?

    :)

    Gary

Please provide more information so that the cause of your problem may be diagnosed.

Please restart your computer and allow 20 minutes for the system to run before uploading information required to help me investigate your problem. When examining Event Viewer log files many, not all, problems show in the period immediately after
    the computer has been booted.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. To access your System Information file select the keyboard shortcut
    Win+R, type msinfo32
and click OK . Place the cursor on
System Summary. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Click Save.
Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file.
The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two
for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. If the report is in a
language other than English, please state the language.

Please upload to your OneDrive and share with everyone a copy of your
System log file from your Event Viewer and post a link here. Please remove any earlier copies of the logs from your OneDrive.

To access the System log select the keyboard shortcut Win+R, type
eventvwr.msc and press the ENTER key. From the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and
Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do
not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do
not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

For help with OneDrive see paragraph 9.3:

Unable to update to version 1511 build 10586

    Hi Howard,

Please answer these questions to assist you better.

    • Do you get any error message?
    • Do you have stable internet connection?

This issue might occur if there are update settings corrupted. Follow the steps below and check.

Method 1: Run the Update Troubleshooter on the computer.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Update. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Windows update.

    Refer these steps:

    1. Press
    Windows key +X,
    select Control panel.

    2. Change the
view by option on the top right to Large icons.

    3. Click on
Troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.

    4. Run the
    Windows Update troubleshooter.

    5. Restart the system and check if the issue is resolved.

If Method 1 doesn’t help, try Method 2.

Method 2: Reset the Windows Update Components

Refer the link below for the steps to manually reset the Update components and check if it helps.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

Unable to update to Build 10586

I'd use the Media Creation tool to download the .ISO, or get the ISO directly from Tech Bench .

Not guaranteed to help, but it may save you from repeatedly downloading multiple gigabytes of installer.

Your existing Windows 10 installation will allow you to mount the .ISO, and you can then run the update directly from that.

10586 is more of an upgrade than an update. If memory serves, it generates the windows.old folder. I recommend imaging the current Win 10 installation before updating.

  5. I downloaded the ISO file. Mount with Daemon tools, but every time I run "setup.exe" it gives the same message as before: "Setup couldnt start properly". I tried booting into safe mode and deleting two folders named "$Windows.~BT" and "$Windows.~WS". I was able to delete "$Windows.~WS", but the other one it gives me a message saying that I need SYSTEM authorisation to delete it. I still tried to run "setup.exe" anyway, but the same error happened.

Don't use Daemon Tools. Just right click on the ISO and select Mount.

I'd suggest you reboot so Daemoin TYools is not involved in any way then right click an Mount then run setup.exe from the mounted ISO.

  7. I uninstalled Daemon tools, restarted the pc, but again, same error: "Setup couldn't start properly. Please reboot your PC and try running Windows 10 setup again."

Unable to update to Build 10586

Try these commands from a Elevated Command Prompt. First Mount the ISO as you just did then replace the M the drive letter of the mounted ISO. Post results here.

    dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:M:\sources\install.esd /index:1
    OR
    dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:M:\sources\install.wim /index:1

Output will look something like this:
In my case the ISO I downloaded has both Home and Pro in it, Home is Index 1, Pro is Index 2.

Next enter winver from a Run box or Command Prompt, post result here also. Will look similar to this:
