Windows 10: Unable to update to either Win 10 1909 or 2004 from 1903

Our 2 year old Lenovo Yoga laptop is running Windows 10 64. It has updated to 1903 when it was due. In the past the hardware has been upgraded from the original HDD to a SSD and I have increased the Ram from 4 to 16GB.

The antivirus is Avast Premium which does not seem to an effect on the updates either way.

When the feature update 1909 was on offer all PCs and laptops in the house updated except for this Lenovo laptop. Because people in the "Tenforum" were pretty unkeen about 1909 I left it. Now Windows is offereing the 2004 feature update and I tried to install it. The laptop cycles for a good few hours with download and install only to then declare it cannot be done: Error 0x80004005 - same as with 1909 - displayed in Windows Update.

The troubleshooting finds a problem and keeps fixing it - to no avail.

I have done a scannow /fix.

I have looked at the setuperr.log and CBS.log, but it does not mean too much to me.

Another log also showed a 0x80070490 error.


I did read through some of the update error threads and I am not prepared to completly reset the system.


What else can I run to et a "normal" painfree update rather than wasting hours waiting for the laptop to update

How to update from 1903 to 1909 (not 2004)

My wife's Asus All-in-One PC updated to Win 10 2004 in June and everything crashed . . . it wouldn't even boot. I read a little about the issue and assumed that it may have been a driver issue. However, I'm no computer expert and it took me 3 days to solve
it by reverting to 1903.

Yesterday she received a message that support for 1903 was expiring and will no longer receive updates (or words similar).

Therefore, I would like to update her to 1909 (and wait a while longer for 2004). Unfortunately, her PC has already downloaded 2004 again and is just waiting for a restart (so I have temporarily paused updates for 7 days).

Tried MS Chat and Phone call to MS Support. They both recommended using Windows Media Creator (WMC) to reinstall Windows but can't tell me which version will be installed. The Chat person wrote, Quote: "Media
tool will download the Windows 10 setup (May 2020) Version 1903" Unquote.

When I questioned this with, Quote: "I thought 2004 was May 2020 and 1903 was May 2019" Unquote, and asked for clarification, they
vanished and left me holding on for over 30 minutes without responding to my messages.

The person on MS phone support didn't know and promised to ring me back . . . but, after 2 hours, hasn't.

Most grateful if someone can advise which version WMC will install and/or how to prevent it installing 2004.

Windows 10 pro 1903 will not update to Win 10 Pro 1909

Notes:

1) Computer originaly used Win 7 Pro OA (OEM)

2) Reformatted the HD

3) Used Win10 Pro version 1903 to install on the Win 7 Pro OA (OEM) based computer.

4) Used the OA Product Key that was listed on the Computers Case.

5) Installation completed.
Program confirms activation is valid.

6) Win 10 Pro will not list an available upgrade to Win 10 pro version 1909.

 

Perplexed about win 10 / 2004

Hello – I have 4 win 10 computers 3 are running 1909 and the last one is running 1903. 2 of the systems have the disclaimer that 2004 is on its way, but that OS is not up to lever yet. One of the 2 has an old nvidia graphics card and nvidia tells me that
there are not more updates for it, and from the MS doc, this could be one of the issues — is MS going to fix this issue? The other one of the 2 just a just a few years old and I am not sure if HP is going to do any updates to 2004 can be applied

The last 2 – one is running 1903 and there is an invitation on the windows update page noting that I can updates to 2004 and the last OS is running 1909 (it’s a 32 bit win 10 system) is up to date with all 1909 updates, but there is not invitation to
updated to 2004 – would I have to use the “media creation tool” to do the update or is it prudent to wait for the invite via windows update? Thanks
