Windows 10: Unable to update to KB5016629

I am unable to KB5016629 and the last 3 cumulative updates, for that matter. Every time it fails with the horrifically undescriptive 0x80073701 error. Even when I try and be smart about it, and examnine the CBS.log for ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING notices, I get hopelessly convoluted messages like: 2022-08-28 23:46:37, Error CSI 0000000a F HRESULT_FROM_WIN32ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING #606791# from Windows::ServicingAPI::CCSITransaction::ICSITransaction_PinDeploymentFlags = 0, a = Microsoft-Windows-Editions-Professional-Deployment-LanguagePack, version 10.0.22000.675,

Windows 2022-08 Cumulative Update (KB5016629) is stuck on Pending Download

In that case I suggest you try to download and install the update manually through the Microsoft catalog:

Download the version for Windows 11 x64;

Check if the update installs successfully;

Windows 2022-08 Cumulative Update (KB5016629) is stuck on Pending Download

2022-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5016629) will not install. Install error - 0x800f0988.

A search for an answer to this problem provides several recommendations. None, so far, have worked for me.

The first method I tried said to clean the temp files on your computer and restart it, then reset the update components.

1. Press Windows + R. Type TEMP and press enter. Delete all the files inside this folder. Repeat this step by typing %TEMP% and Prefetch. Delete everything on both folders too.

2. then Update Troubleshooter can help resolve the problem.

Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters. Next, under Most frequent, select Windows Update > Run.

note: I was not able to delete all of my temporary files because some were in use.

This method did not work, I still got the 'Install error - 0x800f0988'.

The second method said to go to Microsoft Update Catalog

and enter the KB number (KB5016629) into the search field. A list of updates is displayed. Find the appropriate update on the list and pick the download button for that file. Once downloaded, double-click on the file to install it.

The Windows Update Standalone Installer seemed to be working but finished with the message "Some updates were not installed. The following updates were not installed: Security Update for Windows (KB5016629)"

Are there any other methods I can try to get this 'important security update' installed?
