    unable to work with files

i keep encountering a strange issue that i have never in all my days - going way back to MS-DOS 2.0 and Windows 3.0. it is files that are seemingly locked, corrupted and unable to be accessed by the filesystem. this is occuring with both directories and files on two seperate drive types. the only response from both windows and the command prompt when trying to work with the files is an access denied error.. i have tried using chkdsk, i have tried manually deleteing the file under safemode, i have tried using takeown, but i am unable to change the security setting on the file or delete the file

    :)

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

  4. unable to work with files

Unable to access files, folders and other drivers, error: Working on it

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

As you are unable to access files and folders in Windows Explorer, this issue might be due to corrupted or missing System files.

I suggest you to Run SFC scan and check if you are able to access Files and folders.

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Right click on the Start button, click on
      Command Prompt (Admin).

    • Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
      Enter.

    • After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.

Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of this issue, we will be happy to help you.
