understanding windows 10 updates: version, quality, os build info

How does one tell if a win10 is fully updated, or patched?

On my pc @ home, it shows version 1909 with I think build 18363.something and either zero or two quality updates.

On a work pc, it shows version 1809 build 17763.973, with 21 quality updates.
    Today's date is Feb 10, 2020.

How does one know what quality updates they should have?
Does a later version such as 1909 with no quality updates beat out and any older version with N quality updates?
How does one find out what versions and quality updates are out there, and what they should have?
Is there a better reference than this: Windows 10 version history - Wikipedia

Is there an explanation for how the build number works? Such as "17763.973", how do I decipher the value before and after the decimal point?

    :)

NOTE: the listing titles are in order from the order in the actual list, anything added in v8 will show which beta it was updated in to keep you guys informed on what changes were made where, as of 8.0 BETA 8, 7.1 is obsolete, but will keep it up to show how many changes I've made.

    Windows 10 Pro Version/Build Info

I am not a Windows user, usually: about three times a year I boot into Windows and the first thing I try to do is run the update assistant. My last session was in August 2018.

Today I logged in and tried to run the update assistant and was thanked for updating Windows 10. To be clear: I am running Windows 10 Pro and the last time I updated it was last August. I've run into issues with the update assistant in Win 7 so I decided
    to manually check the version.

The info at the Windows 10 Update History webpage shows only Windows 10; not Pro. Are they the same OS build and only
added feature sets are enabled? If so, why won't my system update to the current "version 1903?" If not, where can I find the version info for Windows 10 Pro?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Edition Windows 10 Pro

    Version 1803

    Installed on 8/22/2018

    OS build 17134.345

  4. understanding windows 10 updates: version, quality, os build info

Failure to install Windows 10 update version 1709

After numerous attempts to install Windows update 10 version 1709, I cannot get it to install. I have used the Windows troubleshooter but to no avail.

    Please help!

I am a novice at all this so need clear step by step instructions on how to solve my problem.

Here is some info that I think is needed:

    • Running Windows 10 home
    • Version 1607 is currently installed
    • OS Build 14393.2125
    • System type is 64 bit OS, x64 based processor.
If more info is required, please let me know and tell me how to find it please.

I am so frustrated. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Kim Alexander
