There is absolutely no instance of a Windows Store app running better or providing something extra that a desktop software or web app couldn't... Where is your evidence to support these statements. I use a mixture of desktop and store apps, as I am sure many do. You are just stating opinion.

@margrave10: I agree. Set it to menuview and everything opens up when you hover above it with the pointer*Cool

I delete most of the bloatware with Revo uninstaller. And it's free*Smile

The Apps I have got installed from the store have been updated several times since I have had them downloaded and installed, so how can you put that.
I look and maintain several OS both home and pro, and at home and offices and shops, all have got something they need from the store and all have up to now been kept up to date.

  5. The proof is in the pudding. The Windows Store is probably the most inadequate app store I've seen when it comes to reliability and features. Both the Android store and even Chrome's web store makes it look like child's play. Look at the reviews on most the apps, it's pretty telling. Hardly an opinion when the majority are constantly leaving negative feedback. It's like the Google+ of app stores.

  6. They may be updated but the majority are still broken or don't provide a complete product. The Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, and Reddit apps are a complete joke and clunky compared to it's Android counterparts. Even Ebay realized how terrible it was and pulled its own app from the store.

I guarantee I can replace all those store apps you use with a superior desktop/droid/browser app that provides a better experience with less lag/bugs. You guys really love tooting their horn despite the apps being fairly clunky and providing a mediocre experience. If you had a history with truly amazing apps from other app stores, you wouldn't be singing their praises. They have a long way to go before they are even considered half as great. Any reputable source wouldn't put them in the same league.

So instead of hating on the OP when he is providing others with the means of deleting this stuff off their PC, you guys could have just moved on with your negative opinions. No one is asking you to delete the apps, but others aren't so gullible of leaving what they find useless off their PC's that Windows didn't even provide the ability to remove.

The whole point of this is that I should be able to choose which apps from which vendors I wish to use. I use Lightroom and Photoshop, why would I ever want Microsofts photo viewer. There is no question that it is inferior to what I use. It may well suit another users requirements perfectly, and that is their choice.
And that my friends is the whole point:- Individual Choice.
Likewise I do not use my PC for games, so why should I need Xbox.

The greater the number of apps running on a machime the greater the chance of a conflict, and I beleive that is what I have experienced. It is not possible, nor reasonable to expect Microsoft, or any other software vendor to absolutly guarantee that there will be no problems or security issues. There are too many PCs in the world for them to test all the software permutations for conflict. Maintaining a system without unnecessary apps is easier than trying to find what is causing the issue with one laden with unnecessary processes. Remember many of these apps demand access to areas of the O/S.

The latest update rendered my EOS software inoperative, caused my audio to dissapear, and caused a crash on my Mach1 cnc software. Fortunatly it was not running a process at the time. Because windows just shut down my system at about 8PM on friday, the implications of a terminated program under those circumstances could have cost many hundreds of pounds in machine damage, and possibly injury throught flying peices of metal!

The android and google app stores have been mentioned, and this is also a case in point. I needed a GPS app for my android phone. There was a large number to choose from, I tried about three of them and then purchased the one that suited my requirements best. In short I could choose what I waned.

    Hi there

Clean install windows from Media creation tool fixes all this.

The only time |I'd imagine you get a load of totally unnecessary Bloatware is if you buy a PC from any sort of computer store with Windows pre-loaded.

However you can always download Media creation tool and re-install these days.
Backup your system FIRST though - you might want to set back to the "Factory State". Don't use the supplied recovery option but use something like FREE MACRIUM to image the HDD. Image ALL the partitions including the generally hidden recovery one and save on external HDD.

    Cheers

Gosh. I didn't think of that.

Perhaps I should remove the weather app in case it causes a hurricane.

Thank you for this list. This bloat ware causes issues in virtualized environments. We are trying to remove every unnecessary process so they do not have a chance to eat up cycles and increase CPU ready time.

This is my own method I run
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.co...-apps-65dc387b

To remove the apps I do not want from the install.wim file if you want to get windows 10 iso then goto
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 on a linux machine this will let you choose what version and language you want

the iso has the install.wim create a bootable usb using the Windows 7 to USB you can then run the powershell script on the install.wim file to remove the apps you do not want.

If you use the sysprep guide on this site you can disable a lot of settings via GPO before finaly finishing the install - for a nice clean minamilist OS

I understand why MS is including adverts and trying to upsell other products - however I agree with the OP I should have the option to turn this off or not install it during the instalation - I dont want games, I do not need a Twitter or Facebook app, there are tons of websites to check the weather or the news, I use VLC for playing videos and musicBee for my music, I do not have an XBOX, I am happy with the standard app for skype it should be called anoyanceware.

I want the OS to do my work and run the applications I choose not to offer me stuff I don't need. Just like I don't like TV adverts or adverts on websites.

Since I first used windows 1.1 it has come along way windows 98 was ok, Windows 2000 was great, windows media was omg - Vista wtf - Windows 7 I am tempted to go back to no adverts but lacks some support for newer hardware :-(

Another utility I use is O&O ShutUp10 which blocks a lot of other non essential stuff from running.

  12. Considering, that removing built-in apps might cripple the Windows, I wonder, if it is worth the effort?!

Uninstall the Bloatware Windows 10 came with

    Hi everyone,

I personally found this thread both interesting and confusing and, if I may, I would like sharing with you a couple of observations.

    1. The definition of bloatware is definetly subjective and even a "tiny" app may represent for someone a relatively big intruder inside the supposed "purity" of his or her machine IF its presence is not a totally free choice. Considering that each and everyone of us is definetely entitled to feel comfortable with his or her own machine, the mere fact of not being in control of the situation due to external intromissions should be regarded as a violation of our legitimate freedom of educatedly deciding whether having specific software installed or not.

    2. Beyond such a subjective approach, which could be shared only by those who are compulsively obsessive "clean" installers like myself, there is however an objective issue which cannot be denied even by those who have strenuosly defended the fact that messing with pre-installed apps is, in the best hypothesis, a waste of time: someone who uses his or her PC e.g. for work reasons is definetley entitled to have a choice about the imposed presence of Xbox, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Asphalt 8, March of Empires or Minecraft (try and "clean" install Windows 10 Creators Update and you'll see what I'm talking about). There is no way of getting around this, I bought a license for an OS I use everyday mainly to work and the producer is forcing me to talk "gamish"... I cannot feel sorry for not wanting that stuff around at all.

    3. Before the followers of the "uninstall-'em-all" bandwagon jump on and cry hurrah, I would point out that all of the above may eventually result in a rather steryle, if not straghtaway dangerous, exercise providing the removal of the unwanted alleged bloatware is performed in an unresponsible way. In this sense and with all due respect for every contributor, I personally deem the fact of publishing a mere list of uninstall instructions (with just a vague warning to how theoretically harmful it could turn out) somehow confusing, above all for not so advanced users like myself.

In conclusion, IMHO the point is NOT whether it is right or not uninstalling apps that nobody asked for in the first place, because this is a legitimate act of freedom regardlessly of how tiny or HD-wise irrelevant are those apps, but how we are supposed to do that. In this sense I would suggest to move from simple lists without explanations to the great tutorial by Master Brink:

Windows 10: Uninstall Apps in Windows 10

As my first and only intention is giving a humble contribution to a Forum where I come to learn and for which I remain deeply grateful to each and everyone of you, I definitely hope that no one will perceive this comment negatively in any possible way.

    Hi,

Does Windows run any better/faster when al apps you don't want have been removed ?
I do not think so going by my experience. If you want a W7 like W10 then going Enterprise LTBS may be an option.

Sure, first thing I do is remove all games and other stuff I'll never use but other than that I'll just let it run as is.

    Cheers, *Wink

    Hi there

I'm all in favour of sensible suggestions - for example I really LOATHE this new trend of making new hardware devices Voice activated --there's enough extraneous noise on this planet as it is - so if I could get rid of Cortana I would - I've dog muzzled it anyway so it doesn't make a sound but it still seems to make suggestions from time to time in the notifications area - but assuming everybody likes or needs the same things is BONKERS.

I've never used (or want to use) an XBOX in my life but I'm pretty sure what the reaction would be if I suggested that XBOXES were just for pimply faced teenage nerds !!!! so I believe as people say in the UK "Horses for Courses".

As for "If you didn't ask for it it must be bloatware" -- well if you buy a car you don't ask for a Gas tank or a Steering wheel -- are those bloatware !!

Ms puts together a reasonable selection of applications that it thinks based on market research will be the most popular and on the whole most of the stuff is fine.

The most sensible suggestion is to make as many of these as possible easy to uninstall - some people use computers for quite different things than pure hobbyists etc -- and especially these days where you might be working as an external consultant with many different companies you don't want your PC to be loaded with Games etc (unless of course you are working as a Games developer !!).

I myself hate the latest idea with Tiles on the screen --it's NOT a mobile phone and get rid of most of them --I HATED W8 and would any day prefer the elegance of the Windows 7 menu - but W10 is OK and runs mostly fine.

Where I draw the line is in some of those wretched Store apps and the inevitable targeting of ads and possibly email spam -- if either of these things become seriously irritating then I will give up - currently though it's OK - but I'm watching !!!!

    Cheers
