Windows 10: Uninstalling from Apps and features: "this file does not have a program associated with it...

On every single Windows installation, on every single computer I've been using - fresh install, OEM install, upgrade install... I've always encountered this problem. When trying to uninstall from Apps and features it cannot uninstall some apps/software and end up with the error "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action".


It could be Lenovo System Update, it could be Samsung Magician... the latest one I tried now is Razer Chroma SDK. It cannot uninstall from Apps and features, for some reason. It has no problem uninstalling from Control Panel.


In my Google searches I find no one with a question like mine, not specifically regarding Apps and features. How can this be?

I have the error in multiple computers, multiple installs, multiple different software... does nobody uninstall software from Apps and features?


The common denominator being that it's in swedish. Could this affect it somehow?


It's no big deal going to Control Panel uninstalling software - in fact I rather do this. It's just frustrating when they push this "Settings" app, but it cannot even do a simple task like uninstalling software, and often just links to Control Panel for more advanced features anyway.



So, does anyone have any clue as to what causes this? Appreciated!

can't uninstall program

- Did you try un-installing the program from programs and features?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Repairing or removing programs

To uninstall programs, go to Settings.

• On the Start menu, then select Settings.
• Select System > Apps & features.
• Select the program, then select Uninstall. Some apps that are built in to Windows can’t be uninstalled.
  
• Follow the directions on the screen.

If you are still unable to uninstall the program, follow the steps below.

• In Search, enter Control Panel and select Control Panel.
• Select Programs > Programs and Features, then select the program.
• Select the program, then select Uninstall. Some apps that are built in to Windows can’t be uninstalled.
  
• Follow the directions on the screen.

When clicking the files getting error that the file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.

I understand that when you try to open the file, you are prompted that the files does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. We will certainly help you.

• What file are you trying to open?

This issue is caused if the file is not associated with any of the application or program to open it.

If those files are the pictures as I can see that you are trying to access the picture folder. I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if the issue resolves.

• Right click on the file and select Open with.
• Select Photo App or Photo Gallery.
• Double click and check if you are able to open that file.

Can a file extension(.flv) be added to Default Program Associations.

When you say that "Default Program Associations", are you referring to the list of default applications in default programs settings?



I want you to be informed that all the file extensions is listed in the default program settings which is displayed under
Associate a file type or protocol with a program.



In default program list, all the programs or application will be listed. Then we can select each program as default program for opening a particular file.

I suggest you to refer to the below steps to make default program for a particular file extension.

1. Type "Control Panel" without the quotes in search box and click on it.

2. Click on Programs.

3. Then click on Default Programs and click on Choose Default for this Programs.

4. Select .flv file from the list.

Also you can try other steps to associate the a particular extenstion with the program.

1. Type "Control Panel" without the quotes in search box and click on it.

2. Click on Programs.

3. Then click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program
and search for .flv extension from the list.

4. Click on .flv and then click on Change Program.
