Windows 10: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) - Error 43 Problem

I purchased a PC Wireless Gaming Receiver in order to use my Xbox 360 controller for playing Steam games. But initially, what I wanted to do was to mirror my monitor to my tv in the living room so I could play from the comfort of my sofa.

No problems with mirroring nor getting the wireless receiver to work. However, the distance from where my pc is located to my living room caused my controller to disconnect.

So I purchased a:

“USB3.0 Extension Cable 20ft, SNANSHI USB 3.0 Extender Cord Type A Male to Female Extension Cable Compatible for USB Flash Drive, Card Reader, Hard Drive,Keyboard, Printer, Oculus VR, Playstation, Xbox”

from Amazon, plugged it in to the back of my pc, connected the receiver and immediately got the, “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” error.

Things I have tried:

• uninstalling the device and rebooting
• plugging it into every USB port I have and rebooted each time
• scanning for hardware changes after uninstalling
• searching for drivers manually and automatically
• running msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic in PowerShell

Nothing has worked and no known drivers were found. I realize that the wireless receiver uses a USB 2.0 and the extension cord is USB 3.0, but I read that it did not matter and that it would work. Was I wrong?

I’d really, really appreciate any help and/or advice.

BTW, I’m running Win 10 Home x64 bit on an old Alienware Area 51 Intel i7 (don’t know if this info is needed, but it doesn’t hurt to add it.)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed. Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

When I connect my Tascam 202 MKVII cassette player to record through USB port using Windows 10 OS, the USB port shows this message and does not recognize the hardware.

May I please know, How to get rid of this issue?

Maybe it's time to step back from the current efforts, and start over. I suggest you read over this excellent tutorial and try all of its steps: [Solved] Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) for Windows 10 - Driver Easy. The one that may provide you with some easy relief is the one where you uninstall the device whose descriptor is failing, reboot, and see what happens when device enumeration recurs during boot-up. If you're lucky, it will fix itself.
