Frequent batches of unexplained error reports and occasional freezes related to Tekken, KERNELBASE.dll, Unreal Engine 4, and D3D device lost. Multiple sets of errors per hour.

I am having a repeating error show up in the Event Viewer. Multiple times an hour I get batches of about 13 errors that look like this:

    Fault bucket , type 0

    Event Name: Assert

    Response: Not available

    Cab Id: 0

    Problem signature:

    P1: UE4-TekkenGame

    Hashed bucket:

The errors mention Tekken 7 but still occur regardless of Tekken being open. I uninstalled Tekken, removing the steamapps file location found in the error, but the errors continued.

Most of the time the errors have no noticeable effect on the computer, but occassionally they will cause a freeze for several seconds. When a freeze occurs, I get this LiveKernelEvent 141 appearing in the Reliability History:

    Windows

    Product: 768_1

    OS Version: 10.0.16299.2.0.0.768.101

    Locale ID: 1033

The errors seem to happen randomly, several times an hour, with no apparent pattern or trigger.

The "Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost" message is what pops up when Tekken has crashed in the past for me. I mostly stopped these crashes by lowering graphics settings and slightly underclocking my card.

The first errors in the Event Viewer are on 4/6/2018. This may line up with a day I uninstalled and reinstalled Tekken but I am not sure. However, LiveKernelEvent hardware errors in the Reliability Monitor go back to December 2017.

Some of things I have tried to no effect include a Malwarebytes scan, updating to the latest video driver, rolling back to older video drivers, sfc /scannow, uninstalling and later reinstalling Tekken, and verifying the game cache.

What's confusing to me is why Windows seems to constantly want to do something with a Tekken file when Tekken hasn't been opened.

  4. Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost

    Can I uninstall Unreal Engine

Hello, I'm A&K. I'm glad to be able to help you.

If you don't have Unreal Engine installed, this may be carried by some games made with Unreal Engine. Uninstalling it will not affect your system, but some games may not run.
