Windows 10: Unusual HDMI port behavior: One HDMI port stops working after a monitor is unplugged.

I have 2 HDMI ports, and I can connect two working monitors, and everything works normally and as expected. However, when I unplug the HDMI from one port, and later plug it back in, that HDMI port acts as though it no longer works. The monitor connected to it no longer receives a signal. If I switch which monitor is connected to which port, the monitor connected to the port that was originally disconnected from the monitor is the monitor that still functions.


The only way I've found to fix the problem is to restart my computer, making sure that both monitors are connected to the HDMI ports before booting up my computer.


I have a Zotac Zbox en1060k, for reference, though I believe this is a software issue.

HDMI Port Stopped Working

I generally use a second monitor via an HDMI cable while working. However, it stopped working today.

I checked these:

• Windows cannot detect a second monitor when HDMI cable is connected to the second monitor.
• HDMI cable which I use works if another device is connected to the second monitor.
• My computer detects my HDMI-to-VGA converter through HDMI port.

My computer runs Windows 10 Home with latest updates installed.

I suspect this is due to a driver error. How can I fix this problem?

I already tried another HDMI cable but it still didn't work. And both the Nvidia and the windows control panel aren't detecting any monitor (only my primary). My primary monitor is using a DVI port while the second one is using an HDMI port. The second monitor (wich is actually a tv) is set to HDMI input.

 

HDMI Port

In my case I was pleasantly surprised to find that HDMI started working again after 1803 but since the last update it stopped again and I have had to revert to a VGA connection. I actually use an HDMI-VGA converter plugged into a Surface HDMI adapter.
HDMI Audio (which has never been reliable) had its own new quirks and was mostly unusable. Now, of course, with VGA I have disabled HDMI Audio on that port. I can't remember if I tried disabling HDMI Audio before giving up on HDMI Video. I may try hooking
it up again to try to clarify my symptom description.
