I always thought there was a correlation between 'Risk Level high and low' and fast ring and slow ring.

Well I was thinking that MS would want this RTM tested very thoroughly and that was my reasoning that we should get it tomorrow and do what we are supposed to do with it before it goes to the GP.

I think it may be related to a setting we saw for a specific build that said something like "Let Microsoft try new software" or something like that...

    Open a Elevated Command prompt.
    Enter

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>reg query "hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability"

    My results are:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability
    ThresholdRiskLevel REG_SZ low
    Ring REG_SZ WIF
    ThresholdOptedin REG_DWORD 0x1
    FlightingOwnerGUID REG_SZ 59d06ac0-f3d2-4fdb-8056-b90acf0327c6
    EnablePreviewBuilds REG_DWORD 0x2
    BranchName REG_SZ TH1
    UserPreferredBranchName REG_SZ TH1

    This is on 10166.

Probably not, Gary. We'll probably get a Release Candidate if anything, but I'm thinking it may be another Build for us to check everything out.

Why? OEMs are the ones who will build, test, distribute, the computers that will be available to end users on July 29. I'm afraid they're just a tad bit more important than Insiders are at this stage of the game.

Yeah, I hope you are too . . . I need another Build for a clean install, since Build 10166 seems not to want to install on Lappy 17. I surely am glad I decided to clean install to it before I tried this desktop!

I think we'll get a couple more builds for general testing in the next couple of weeks. Maybe even a Release Candidate.

  9. That's what it should be - TH1

The article explains the branch change reflects MS moving delivery to production servers. A few tests outside of development and in a real world scenario I guess.

I'd say they will just give it to insiders and OEM'S at the same time, when they RTM the final build.

But they won't. Never have before, anyway. We've always received Release Candidates and I don't see why they'd change that now, since a Release Candidate is a very important part of the testing process.

Microsoft has not done an Insiders program before, so what was done before does not matter. It's easy to release it to us and OEM's at the same time.

If your wanting to take advantage of having the files downloaded ahead of time by the GWX App, you may want to start leaving your PC on overnight towards the end of the month. *Wink And maybe keep track of how much free space is on the drive, just for fun. *Smile That may give us hints as to who's getting it and who isn't, and when. Not sure how that works if your running the preview though, it doesn't have the GWX App. Still might download in the background though.
