Windows 10: Update 1709 to 1803

Hello,

I know, I know - countless problems with that update everywhere.

In short: since the inception of the 1803 update in October 2018 my computer tries to bring that update to a good end - in vain. And this several times a week, with a considerable slowing down of the machine at each try - so much so that I had to make the update service inactive while working, so as not to imper my work.

Seeing no solution to this problem, and reading the often contradictory information about this ubiquitous problem, I finally contact Microsoft over here in Belgium. After checking everything - and trying a partial reinstall (while keeping all files), which also failed after the second restart, those helpful people at Microsoft told me that 1709 contained a blocking element which made the update impossible. So, wonderful recommendation (as usual): back up everything on C and do a clean reinstall.

Now, is that really, really necessary? Nobody told me of course what the blocking element was, they just confirmed the error code: 0x800700d8. But it is my experience with Microsoft that when a problem gets a bit too complex and that they really must devote time to it, they just go into "total reinstall" retreat.

So, maybe there is a less drastic solution to my problem somewhere. Could find anything except complaints about similar difficulties for Forum 10 users.

Meanwhile, I'll avoid updates. My actual version works okay (even with a number of ridiculous quirks, which are not as annoying as the one described above).

Unable to update Windows 10 Pro version 1709 to 1803

Have made several attempts to update Windows 10 version 1709 to the latest version 1803 and have not been successful.

I've done the following per some suggestions found online:

• Updated drivers
• Ran the Trouble Shooter for Windows 10 (Errors found were shown to be "Fixed" per the tool)
• Unplugged the printer

Although not at every attempt, I have received the following errors:

• 0xc1900101
• 0x80070643

Can someone please advise me as to what the errors are and provide me with the steps to update Windows.

Windows 10 April 2018 Update(SCU) Partially Breaks MKV File Support?

I would check, but I am not updating to 1803 until I have to 1709 on all of my builds still.
