I had this problem once before and I got so annoyed that I just reinstalled windows, but if this keeps happening I want to fix the source of the problem so I don't have to deal with this again in the future.

I was trying to install kb5000850 and kept getting the error 800f081f. I ran the update troubleshooter, which just told me to reboot. That didn't fix anything. I ran 'sfc /scannow' and it didn't find any problems. I downloaded the MSU from the update catalog which failed with no error code presumably for the same reason.

Then tuesday kb5001337 was released and I'm getting the same error and I can't get that to install either, with the same error code.

What went wrong, how can I fix it, and how can I prevent it in the future?

Today i've updated my Lumia 640 XL LTE from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile 10.0.10586.107

Now update shows that I can download and install 10.0.10586.164.
