Windows 10: Update error code 0xc1900209

When updating Windows 10, I consistently get an error - code listed above with the text Infineon TPM Professional Package This app is not compatible with Windows 10. Please delete it and continue. I looked up the file and it is not an app, it is a device driver. What does this device driver do?

Ok, to sum things up, here a few hints to identify the cause of error 0xc1900209.

According to
this technet article the error code stands for:

0xC1900209
The user has chosen to cancel because the system does not pass the compatibility scan to install the update. Setup.exe will report this error when it can upgrade the machine with user data but cannot migrate installed applications.
Incompatible software is blocking the upgrade process. Uninstall the application and try the upgrade again. See Windows
10 Pre-Upgrade Validation using SETUP.EXE for more information.

To identify the incompatible app, grab a Windows 10 install image (use Windows Media Creation Tool to download the appropriate Win 10 version) und mount it. Then execute the file setup.exe located in the root folder of the Win 10 install image. The upgrade
wizzard shall list incompatible apps.

In case, an unknown app is enlisted from upgrade troubleshooter, it's possible to analyze the xml files to find out more details. The steps are discussed within my blog posts.
