Update for Windows 10 1803 removed Office 2016 Home and Office perpetual licensed software

My client updated her Windows 10 Professional from 1709 to 1803 earlier in March 2018. Since then she has not been able to use any Microsoft Office software or Adobe reader programs, which I had set as default software to open Documents and PDFs respectively.

As my client travels frequently, at times to places with no internet availability, we had installed Microsoft office 2016 with perpetual license: One time installation software, not Office 365 or any variation of it that requires monthly/yearly subscription payments.

I tried rolling the laptop back to earlier version of Windows 10 Pro 1709, but somehow it is not available even though the Microsoft Windows 10 Pro update was within a month.

Looking into the laptop's C:\Windows.old folder shows the folder tree structure with Office 2016 installation. However, after the windows update applied 1803, the current windows and program files folders C:\Windows do not contain any of the folder structure that would have Office 2016. So, this is not a case of missing shortcuts or re-locating installation folders to recreate shortcuts.

The software cost $149 + taxes to purchase, now we can not locate the license file and there is no other way to trace the license even if we were to download and install the software.

    Please advise.

    :)

    Spoiler Office 2019
Last year at Ignite, we announced Office 2019 – the next perpetual version of Office that includes apps (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Skype for Business) and servers (including Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business). Today we’re pleased to share the following updates:

    • Office 2019 will ship in H2 of 2018. Previews of the new apps and servers will start shipping in the second quarter of 2018.
    • Office 2019 apps will be supported on:
      • Any supported Windows 10 SAC release
      • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2018
      • The next LTSC release of Windows Server
    • The Office 2019 client apps will be released with Click-to-Run installation technology only. We will not provide MSI as a deployment methodology for Office 2019 clients. We will continue to provide MSI for Office Server products.

  3. Windows update 1803 has changed my ms office from 2016 to office 365.

Office 2016 and Office 365 are the same.

Office 2016 is under the Office 365 brand and includes products such as Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016.

Unless you are saying your perpetual license has been converted into a Subscription.

I'm thinking option one is going to be my only option. I'm fine with that as long as I can get Outlook to work with my ISP's pop3 e-mail. Last time I tried that with the new 2016 install I could not get it to work, no way no how. All the same settings that work with the ISO install?

EDIT: I should mention, for me as far as I know, neither of these options are a subscription. They use two different keys but they are perpetual one time activation licenses. I only ran the new download briefly though, as I could not get outlook to work. I bailed and went back to what works.
