Windows 10: Update has messed up my computer

    Can't open start menu, settings or anything like that. The way i display my homescreen has changed completely, internet not working and when i restart my computer nothing changes.

    i updated my computer last night after being prompted and now I just can't do anything on it. it was fine before i updated and restarted, so its not me. help!!!


    even when i tried going into display settings, it says "this file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action."

    when i try to run ms-settings, it says windows can't find it. has an update really deleted the settings menu? surely not.

    Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

    Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

    Continue with zbook's excellent instructions.

    But if you want to try and get into the BIOS again just to check:
    From your product's website:
    Opening the Startup Menu during system startup on computers

    Follow these steps to open the Startup menu when the computer is powered off.

    1. Turn on the computer.
    2. Immediately press the Escape key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup Menu opens.

    You should get this option:
