Windows 10: Update (KB3206632) will not complete. PC keeps wanting to Restart

Hi,

I have an extremely frustrating problem. The update "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3206632)", Is downloaded and installed. The PC then tells me it has to Restart to complete the installation. This happens but the message "Failed to install on dd/mm/yyyy" appears in the Update History. Setup then tells me the PC will Restart at hh:mm because previous attempts were unsuccessful. This is despite me changing the Restart hours to a more convenient time. This has been happening up to 8 times a day for almost 2 weeks. It's driving me mad! Hopefully someone here will have some idea on how to fix it. If not, I'll have to revert back to Windows 7 (not that I'll be too unhappy about that). Cheers, Ray*Confused

KB4074588 keeps wanting a restart so as to consumate somehow. Several restarts haven't changed the situation

To install an MSU file in Windows 10:

Place the update file in C:\updates
Right-click Start and select: Command Prompt (Admin)
Type the following command inside the code box to C:\>
Code: wusa.exe c:\updates\windows10.0-KB3206632-x64.msu[/quote] Note: Replace “Windows10.0-KB3206632-x64.msu” with your file name.


To install a CAB file in Windows 10:

To use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) Command line to install CAB files, do the following:
Place the update file in C:\updates
Right-click Start and select: Command Prompt (Admin)
Type the following command inside the code box to C:\>
Code: dism /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\update\Windows10.0-KB3206632-x64.cab[/quote] Note: Replace “Windows10.0-KB3206632-x64.cab” with your file name.

 

Thanks Cottonball for responding. After my initial update problems I had motherboard issues and had to replace that. However, I now have the same problem but with KB3213986 (which I note has replaced KB3206632, the source of my initial problems). I followed your advice and ran the Windows 10 reset batch file, to no avail, and then downloaded the .msu file from the Microsoft Update Catalog and installed as per your instructions. Same result as before, Update history shows update as 'failed to instal'. Any further ideas? I'm considering reverting Windows 7. Thanks in anticipation. A very frustrated,

And, as a means of obtaining successively closer approximations to the solution of this problem, keep trying to get it installed several times. Ridiculous, but, it has worked for some.
