  2. Installed with Windows Updates on two of my machines , its mentioned as a cumulative update and chanced version to 192.
On my third PC it was not offered by Windows , so I downloaded the installer of this KB ,and it installed well.
Strange , its now called a "security-update " , and chanced version to 192 also.

I did not encounter any troubles , so far...........

Seems to be, amongst others, plenty of HP and particularly common Dell models still in use using the affected AMD chips that are still perfectly decent machines so I cannot really see how we can all just be abandoned by Microsoft, although the continuing silence doesn't seem good. Not even a comment in the update known faults list. I mentioned the manufacturers reconditioned models still on sale and many of these are advertised as Windows 10 and have the affected chips too. I guess we will find out the true impact tomorrow when people find their "work" computers no longer work.

i have same problem.....my CPU is AMD X2 4000 Now 10 years old but with m/b that was replaced in 2011, so after reading these posts wondering if I will have to get new cpu and maybe m/b if MS don't come up with anything. It's been running Fall update fine no probs till this darned update!! Now will pause updates but one can't run indefinitely like that. I guess the age of these chips are getting a bit old now! After my previous post, ive tried to pause updates, but when I go advanced options etc, there seems to be no Pause update toggle button! I'm on Fall Creators but toggle is not there! it has "Choose how updates are installed, Enabling policy, Delivery Optimisation, Privacy Settings. ....
    please can someone advise?! thanks

The 'Pause Updates' option is not available on Windows 10 Home edition, it's only on Windows 10 Pro and (I think) Educational editions.

Have you tried Steve C's solution posted above?
    Hope this helps,
    Dave.

I found a temp fix to hide this update for now.

    1. When update installs & you see a windows logo & no circle mean update no good. Turn on & off PC 2 or 3 times then it will boot into repair mode.

    2. Let it fix it & then it reboot then will say update failed undoing changes then you will get back on.

    3. Run this tool wushowhide.zip & it will search then check hide update & look for the KB4056892 for 1709 or KB4066891 for 1703.

    4. Then reboot if it attempts to install update again let it run & just do above but don't run the tool & it will not come back. Reboot once again & done.

In order for this to work it must say failed to install with error code or if it doesn't give a code it will still work. My other PC didn't give one & I did same thing & all good.

That's the same fix I mentioned in Post 12 above. I think the tool blocks any pending update - there is no need for the update to fail and to invoke the Automatic Repair process.

  12. Add me to the list as well. I have two PC's with AMD Athlon CPU's (5000+ and a 5600+ Windsor) that have failed. One was able to repair and revert to previous build, but the 5000+ has bricked the computer on the update. Will not repair or revert back to a previous build. Tried everything I can find so far (restore's, repairs, etc..) without anyway to get this PC to run again! Hope Microsoft has a fix coming!

Microsoft have acknowledged the problem with KB4056892 crashing with error code 0x800f0845 in the Microsoft Answers Forum, page 11.

They say that they are investigating, and would like affected users to submit feedback on the Feedback Hub app to help with the troubleshooting.

NOTE: The Microsoft Answers Forum stopped working for me in Firefox today for some reason, works OK in the Edge browser.

Don't panic, just wait it out.

    More news from Microsoft
They are no longer automatically sending KB4056892, and several other updates, to a set of computers using AMD chipsets.

    A fix should appear soon.

    Hope this helps,
    Dave.

Thanks for the updates. I see it is finally shown in the known faults in the update notes too. Good to see they are taking it seriously.
