Windows 10: Update KB4458469 Will Not Install

2018-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4458469) keeps failing. In the auto update method, I get the error:


Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later "Error code: (0x80073712).


In searching through the knowledge base, I found and tried the following things; no errors were noted in the exercises, and the problem persists.


Tried:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow

No errors returned.


Also tried:

1. Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.

2. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

3. Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

4. Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Type the following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

5. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it.

** No errors noted.

3rd method tried:

Downloaded the manual install for KB44584969 (the .msu) and tried installing that way. It didn't return an error; it just said some files were not installed: KB44584969.


I am running Windows 10 Professional 64 bit version 1803 build 17134.285.

Cannot install NetFx3 feature without sources after installation of KB4458469

Using Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature, I can no longer install NetFx3 (.NET Framework 3.5) after installation of KB4458469 (cumulative update 2018-09). Here are the steps I have performed:

1. Before the installation of KB4458469 I am able to install NetFx3. The following command succeeds:
   
   Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -FeatureName NetFx3 -Online
2. I uninstall it immediately afterwards, and reboot my pc as requested:
   
   Disable-WindowsOptionalFeature -FeatureName NetFx3 -Online
3. I run Windows Update, which installs KB4458469 and 2 Windows Defender updates (KB2267602 and KB4052623).
4. Now I can no longer install NetFx3. The following command fails:
   
   Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -FeatureName NetFx3 -Online

I know this can be solved by supplying the Windows installation sources, but I don't want to have to have these around when I need to install NetFx3.

Is there something I can do before or after the update so I can install NetFx3 (without sources) after the installation of KB4458469?

 

Insurgency wont install and run for me....

I have played and have fully updated CS and Half life 2....
I am using the newest client and installed the SDK.

I am completely blown away, if i click the desktop icon it starts the sdk and then closes, and it doesn't show up in my game list...

First mod attempt install here, followed the directions step by step on the mods website...

Any ideas?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
