Windows 10: Update nightmare - reset Apps, lost Data after automatic update

Hi,
on a no-problem notebook of a Relative, win ran an update last night at 4 and came up with this:
Most App-Links are gone, Apps still there.
But Firefox, Outlook and others seem completely reset as if freshly installed, no accounts set f.e.
Win demands hardware driver installation for Wifi.
And a bunch of personal files on the Desktop are gone.

Please point me to the right direction before i start to act there.

....but back up any data and apps as these will be lost with resets and firmmware update.

 

"Hard Reset" App

Can Microsoft please consider developing a "Hard Reset" app?

Too often a hard reset seems to be the only solution to fix problems with software updates etc.

Executing that proces and then restoring lost settings etc. takes a couple of hours and data like conversations are just lost.

However a more frequent hard reset would -for me- be acceptable if Microsoft developed a "Hard Reset" app that would:

1) save the user's configuration and all data and settings that are now lost, to the phone's SD card (if available and having sufficient free storage space) or via USB to any PC and

2) after the hard reset and subsequent actions (like installing failed updates) would retrieve and restore the phone's original configuration and all data and settings to the status preceeding the hard reset.

Same thing happened to one of my relatives yesterday! I suggested we did a restart before we tried anything else and on restarting the apps all reappeared and her desktop came back as she remembered it.

This might be the first thing to try and it might sort itself out.
