  1. update problem on windows 10 pro

    Hi,

I have a client's computer that is giving me fits regarding windows updates. I have done all of the standard update fixes (windows update troubleshooter, SFC /scannow, etc.) I was able to do an upgrade (manually) to 1803. I had hoped that had fixed the problem but it didn't. When I try to run windows update from Settings, I get the following message; We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet.

I am definitely connected to the Internet but this version added some additional information. It now adds that *Some settings are managed by your organization. There is a option to see the settings.

These are the settings that it shows:

Intranet Update Service for detecting updates
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

Allow connection to Windows Update Internet Locations
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

Automatically download updates and install them on the specified schedule
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

    Schedule Update Install Day
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

    Schedule Update Install time
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

Auto Reboot will not happen with logged on users
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

    Set Automatic Update Options
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

Specifies the hours before checking for updates
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

Resume Update after device turns on
    Source: Administrator
    Type: Group Policy

Is there a way to turn whatever is preventing updates off and get the system back to a standard update process?

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.

    Regards,

    Bill

    :)

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:
    • Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
    • Try different keyboard or mouse.
    • Restart computer, repeatedly.
    • Google for related issues.
    • Update Bios, because why not.
    • Create boot media and revert to windows 7.
The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.

i've seen this when the stock USB drivers went kaput. Only ever seen it once - i used a PCI USB 2.0 card and connected the mouse and keyboard to that, and manually updated the USB 2/USB 3 drivers.

update problem on windows 10 pro

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/defer-upgrades-in-windows-10

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
