    Update problem

    I clicked something about metering.

A warning came up that it was unable to install an Update because the metering is on.

This is exactly what I want. I don't want to upload anymore Updates.

Every time I get an Update it messes my compute all up.

My question is, if I restart my computer will that Update kick in? If so how can I stop it?

  3. Turn OFF windows 10 updates

When the update is removed. it will then come back, even if you hide it.

Help me get rid of Windows 10.

I found an article the show how to take ownership of the GWX folder and then disable the scheduled task.

Maybe this is what I need to do.

Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10 Windows 10 Windows Update Activation Tutorials

    says
    But:
With the Creator's Update, Microsoft has now given Windows Update permission to download critical security updates even if your connection is marked as metered. Microsoft has promised not to abuse this.
How, When, and Why to Set a Connection as Metered on Windows 10

    - and note you can set both ethernet and Wifi as metered- see the tutorial.

This feature has changed in Creators update. If you look at Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update, it says: “We’ll automatically download and install updates, except on metered connections (where charges may apply). In that case, we’ll automatically download only those updates required to keep Windows running smoothly.
So essential updates will now be downloaded and installed regardless of that setting.

Windows 10 Creators Update may force updates over metered connections - TechSpot

    Conclusion
If you really wish to disable Windows updates and you are using the Creator's edition you need to use another method.

"I don't know If I have the Creator's or not."

Do this to find your OS version: Win key+R then type- winver then OK
Post your result from 'About Windows' frame that pops up.
Creator's is Version 1703. The current build is 15063.483

What problems are you having with updates ? Restarting will not install updates unless they have completed downloading and installed. To find out, hit the Start button then the power icon (circle with | at the top). If it says 'Restart and update', then it will complete installation of pending updates. If it just says restart/shut down/sleep, you're OK to restart or shut down w/o Updates installing.

Are you using disk imaging routinely as we advise repeatedly?

If so, you have a means of restoring your PC, your data, even if your disk fails.

If not, you have great faith.

    Update problem

    version 1511(os Build 10586.962)
The problem I'm having. Since that last Update is my computer boots very slow. And many programs run slow especially Robocopy and search programs. One example is Sticky Keys, which I use a lot. I can type only with one hand.

The way Sticky Keys works is you press the shift key 5 times and a Sticky Keys prompt comes up and I press OK. Let's call this point A. Then the Ease of Access icon appears on task bar. The task bar icon disappears, Sticky Keys prompt disappears. And now you're ready to use Sticky Keys. Let's call this point B. Before the last Upgrade the difference between A and B was almost instantaneous. Since the last Upgrade the time is about 30 secs. Before Robocopy zipped by so fast you couldn't read it untill it stopped. Now it runs slower and stalls while the memory catches up.
I restarted and the "Update not installed because of metering". i just ignored it. This can go on forever as far as I'm concerned as long as it dosen't Upgrade.

    "version 1511(os Build 10586.962)"

The good news is that there has only been one cumulative update since you last updated. That is the Update that is trying to install. Bear in mind, an Update is not an Upgrade. That would be a major OS change like Anniv and Creator's that have come out since your edition.

The bad news is that your edition was issued in Nov 2015 so it's two versions of Windows 10 behind, with another one coming in a few months. Don't know if the lack of memory (2 gb) or obsolete drivers are getting to be an issue, as updates continue to add code and if the newer Win10 versions are even compatible with your device (I suspect not, if you haven't been offered a newer edition by now). Bear in mind that the estimated end of life cycle for 1511 is this Oct, so the pending update may well be the final one.

I take it you do not have a full system image, as suggested by dalchina, so in your position, I would see if you havean older restore point you can revert back to when things were going well. If not, set a Restore Point for today and let the Update install. The Update will replace some corrupted files or settings and then see if some of your issues are fixed. If not, you can simply Restore and nothing lost other than a bit of time.

As a last resort, if you want to disable Windows Updates, go Windows Administrator Tools/Services, scroll down to Windows Update, r-click, 'Properties'. Under 'Startup type' in the middle of the screen, select 'Disabled' then OK. That will stop Windows Updates until you turn it back on to 'Automatic'.

    Good Luck, Don
