Update says it needs stg for 2020-04 KB4549949 but gobs on thumb drive

    V 1809 OS Build 17763.1098

Had similar problem a while back w/o the thumb drive, but after I plugged in the thumb drive it went ahead. My laptop has a small SSD and there is really nothing on it I can delete. Is there any way to make it take advantage of the thumb drive (which has over 50G free!)?

    Thanks, Bob

    :)

    KB4549949 cumulative update for Windows 10 1809

I see that the documentation for KB4549949 released today says : IMPORTANT
We have been evaluating the public health situation and understand the impact this is having on many of our customers. To help ease some of the burdens customers are facing, we are going to delay the scheduled end
of service date for the Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations, and IoT Core editions of Windows 10, version 1809 to November 10, 2020. This means devices will receive monthly security updates only from May to November. The final security update for
these editions of Windows 10, version 1809 will be released on November 10, 2020 instead of May 12, 2020.

So support has been extended until November 10th which is good (I didn't want to risk upgrade to 1909 in the current crisis and not have my Laptop working for a few days especially as alot of issues had been reported
for 1903/1909 in the "Community" see https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us..._10-update/cumulative-updates-march-10th-2020.

So I was surprised when through WindowsUpdate today I was offered only :
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909 !!! It started downloading without any intervention from me and got to "Getting things ready 100%" it then failed with :

There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909 -Error 0x80070002.

As it got to "Getting things ready 100%" does this mean it's changed something and when I Shutdown or Restart it will try and install ?

All my "Update History" has gone. I want to in the current crisis keep 1809 (as Microsoft has recognised anyway) and go to 1909 when I have other options if it doesn't go well.

My Build is OS 17763.1039 (which is way back Feb 11th with KB4532691) Which means I'm missing 4 CU's !!! I don't know why I wasn't offered these Updates at the time (Feb 25, Mar 10, Mar 17, Mar 30) but KB4549949
does supercede all those missing updates.

Can I go to Microsoft Catalogue and Download/Install the latest SSU (KB4549947) and then download & install KB4549949 ? or should I download/Install the 4 missing CU's progressively (as it should have done)
    ?

    Thanks for any advice,

Hope you all are Safe !

    Paul

  4. Update says it needs stg for 2020-04 KB4549949 but gobs on thumb drive

Can a thumb drive be disabled by malware?

There are quite a few possibilities to what happened to your thumb drive:

    1. It might be a simple issue where the partition got corrupted: In this case you can go to Computer Management > Disk Management> and check out what partition your thumb drive currently has. If it currently is in RAW format or is just unallocated, I suggest you unallocate the entire drive and make a new partition. It's possible that you can recover upto 99% of your files with a tool like EaseUS DataRecovery Wizard Pro.
    2. The malware corrupted your thumb drive's firmware: The malware that your thumb drive may have encountered may be similar to something like BadUSB. It may or may not have modified your drive's firmware to transmit malware, but in any case your thumb drive's pretty dead, and there's not much you can do about it.
