Windows 10: Update Service "we couldn't connect to the update service"

Hi, I need help with the above error.


System spec is OptiPlex 760 (32 bit X64) running windows 10 Pro version 1809. OS build 17763.292.


I was happily running the above build up till the end of January with no issues. Updates were being loaded automatically and apps were all running fine.

Then for no apparent reason the above occurred. No new apps or programs were added prior to the error. I have another PC (E7400 2.8 Ghz) running along side and it was fine and updates were all ok still.

The same build as above. Now the error has migrated to this one too.


On the OptiPlex 760 I am also getting I cannot access the smart screen when trying to read add programs after the reset. (big mistake).


Actions taken.

Loads of reboots/shut downs as expected.

Used troubleshooter on everything and it found nothing to report.

I can access the internet as normal and view any site as expected so believe hub is ok. (BT Smart hub 6)

Total reset in the end as I thought this was the right way to go following the on screen tips from Microsoft reboot section.


its driving me mad and all help via web so far has proved unsuccessful.



I know this problem is out there for others so hopefully someone can help. Desperate of Surrey -

Automatic Updates isn't currently running.

 

Windows 10 Update Orchestrator Service

found similar error in the 'System' log, during the restart after installing the update, is this normal for windows 10? Does everyone faced such thing? The update seems to have settled, in the status I've see 'Success', there seem to be no other errors.

The "Update Orchestrator Service" service is turned off due to an error
The return from the operation was due to the timeout.

# To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
