Windows 10: Update tries to install older display driver and fails with 0x8024200B

The Intel Driver & Support Assistant installed the "Intel Corporation - Display - 26.20.100.8141" driver on my system.

Windows Update tries to install an older version, "26.20.100.7529", and fails with error 0x8024200B.


I already tried to reset Windows Update, without success: The driver is downloaded again, and the installation fails as before.


I don't need this installation, obviously. My system works fine, and the device manager shows no issues. I don't like the persistent error message in Windows Update though, or the constant re-try of the installation.


I could probably uninstall the driver manually, have Windows reinstall it and then update via the Intel tool. But it looks to me like something fundamental is wrong here. Why would Windows Update even try to replace a driver with an older one? Why does it not give up after one try?


What should I do?


Windows version is 10.0.19041.208, by the way.

this was actually done on a fresh install; nothing but default xp install, then i immediately tried to install the catalyst drivers; they wouldn't detect the card, and thus, failed to install.

suggestions?

 

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

KB4025339 Fails Install 0x80070564

I am trying Eagle 51's suggestions now. Windows Update troubleshooter found a bunch of errors and fixed all but one.The update is trying to download KB4025339 again. I'll see what happens. At step one troubleshooter finishes with one error unresolved "Potential Windows Update Database Error Detected-Not Fixed". Windows update stalled at 0%.

At step 2 same troubleshooter error. The KB finished a new download failed to install.
Did step 3 KB has downloaded but fails to install.

If Eagle's suggestion doesn't work I'll try EdTittel's suggestion

Tried bothe Eagle & Ed 's suggestions - do not work. Anyone else?

I have noticed that the latest update for my nvidia drivers has failed to update. Wondering about that!
