  3. Change OS to Win 7 Professional.

You will have to furnish your own Windows 7 license and you will need to determine if your laptop is compatible with Windows 7. Newer laptops with Intel 6th, 7th and 8th generation processors and newer AMD CPUs are not compatible with Windows 8.1 or earlier.

“The new microcode will be made available in most cases through OEM firmware updates.”

So I guess that means in my case Asus will be releasing a firmware update that will incorporate the new microcode updates released by Intel.

Is that correct, does anyone know?

I changed the link above. I'm not sure if it was actually fixed or not. I installed mine and it updated the code, but I'm not sure it really fixed anything. But, it runs OK.

BIOS 1003 is already old, they should be coming out with yet a newer one soon.
1003 was released two days after(1st of February) Intel released the last microcode update, I know because I'm following this closely, and check my MOBO's update page daily.

So we can have more fun, and resetup our BIOS, and need to check our OC's yet again.

Yes I thought so, I downloaded 1003 and it’s the same as the one I installed last month.

So I guess I'll just have to wait for the new one

    Thank you guys*Smile

I got a BIOS upgrade for my Dell Inspiron 15, 5577 model yesterday, marked "urgent", from Dell. I also checked my home built ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero motherboard and there was a BIOS upgrade for it, which I installed. Both PC's working OK after BIOS updates.

Updated Firmware Available for 6th, 7th and 8th Gen. Intel Processors

Intel is prioritizing their royalty above all else, as usual. Haswell and Broadwell showed symptoms of instability first and there's no updated codes for these yet. And I don't understand how Intel can manage to release new firmware updates so quickly when they knew about the exploits 6 months in advance. Either they sat on their buttocks for 6 months prior, or the mitigation process takes longer than that, which questions the stability on all of new microcodes. They failed once, and it doesn't surprise me if these updates fail aswell given time. I'm not going to update until the new codes are known to work properly, and I'm not going to take Intel's word of mouth if they "work". Sorry Intel.

Checking for Dell stuff right now: just checked Asrock (nothing) and Lenovo (ditto). Come on, OEMs, come on!
    --Ed--

PS: Nothing from Dell yet for my Haswell All-in-one or my Haswell hybrid tablet (which is now repeatedly crashing again on the latest Insider Preview build -- rolling back now...)

I can’t see my laptop (PC Specialist) getting any BIOS updates even for Spectre/Meltdown as they seem reluctant to issue them. Several users have ask on their forums about them. *Sad
